and it seems mediocre at best. I would honestly rather take the 600.00 and build a newer and more updated PC. But will it do what you want....? Probably. What will you be dong with it??

I would say it isn't all that great of a deal. You would only pay like $800 to buy most of that retail. There you get receipts, warranties, and RMA chances.

If you are truly looking to buy it, I would work them on the price at least $100 (assuming this is cash and carry without shipping the system involved in the pricing).

I don't think it's that great a deal when you consider you also need to buy a Hard Drive or SSD and the operating system.

Memory at 533mhz seems off. Is that DDR2 and not DDR3?

Video card seems like the best component and maybe the power supply, in terms of portability.

Look at this comparison:
Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, L...

You would also need OS and (graphics card, in place of onboard video/optional).

$450 would be more like it. Its an old socket
US right?
Used prices breakdown

Intel Core i5 760, 1156 Socket $130
Asus - P7P55D-E LX $40
8 GB PC3-8500 (1066 MHz ) DDR3 $20
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 $180
Corsair GS 700 $40
NZXT Phantom $50
DVD Drive $10
Total $470

Now if he throws on W7 a harddrive and install then $600

For used parts, that's a bit high. Seriously, hardware is cheap these days especially in the US.

Intel i5 is not worth $130. It's more like ~80 to me. It's about the same performance as Phenom II X6. X6 goes for ~$130 new.

memory is not worth $40. I paid $25 for my 8GB DDR31600 Gskill
Used power supply?...I normally would advise against that
DVD drive... new ones are $15 and $10 when on sale.... so a used one is maybe $5.
Motherboard $40? I would rather just buy a new one. These things break easy with removal and installs so it's best not to buy used. You just don't know what could happen. A new one bundled with i5 or i7 usually comes out to about $40-50 anyways after discounts.

The only decent deal in there is the GTX 570. I would only pay about $150-160 for a used one though

like others have said, without a hard drive or operating system, $500 at the most. It will cost you about another $200 to get a hard drive($75-100) of legit copy of Windows($99)

There's still ways to get legit copies of 7 for free and 8 Pro for $15

Seems pretty okey, but the price should be around $500 mark, hope you can negotiate with your friend. i5 760 is also a nice overclocker, you can easily take it to 3.8ghz mark with proper cooling if you feel slow at stock speed.
Gtx570 is still a very good card,I also own gtx570 and can say this much that it can play almost any mordern game at highest setting in 1080p resolution,I ran crysis3 in highest setting (only Anti Alising was turned off) in 1080p and got average 25fps. My card was at stock speed and processor was overclocked at 4ghz.
Hope this gives a rough idea about the performence you are going to get.

That's what I would do. I know its sad but we all face it. PC parts have got to be the worst investment there is  Now if it was a set up system then that would be a little more but hes not going to get much. It just some parts right now
