Thinking of a CPU upgrade 4 939 socket

Hi guys, been thinking since i have a 939 mobo and quite an extensive watercooling system, im gonna have to extend the life of my rig for as long as possible.

Firstly, I have a AMD 64 Sandy 4000+ which i run at over 3GHz. It performs great, but since 939 boards are soon to become extinct, I was thinking of maybe investing in another CPU. I do have a few requirements tho.

Must be good for overclocking, at least comparable to my oc'd 4000+, and since my pc is a pure gaming rig it must at least perform similarly to my current cpu. I was thinking of maybe a dual core for games that can utilise both cores, and sort of future froofing my current rig b4 I end up changing my rig for a quad core cpu.

So basically im after your thoughts on what 939 processor I should go for, in terms of overclocking and gaming.

i was looking at the x2 4400 toledo core, whats your thoughts on that? since i know it can get to 3ghz, it will b on par with my 4000+

Get the 4600, the extra cache doesn't really help, but the higher clocks will.

I know the 165 overclocks like an insane mofo, but what is the likelyhood of getting a stepping that cant clock past 3ghz? coz i want the cores to at least be 3ghz to b on par with my 4000+

do u know how well the opty 175 overclocks? wanna get the highest core freq humanly possible.. and then some

What about which 939 can get the highest overclock? as I certainly would not mind getting higher than 3.2Ghz, tho im pretty voltage limited on my asus a8r32 board. Are there any optys out there that can get 3.5Ghz ? or more, excluding the 165, as I cant be confident enough yet to know whether ill get a decent stepping with that chip

well its a 2.6 ghz processor so id imagine it would easily OC past 3 ghz. ive heard people get it up to 3.25 stable on air.

wow thats great news, i have a pelt cooler so its looking good! i just want something to beat my 4000+ sandys pants off, and ill do some digging to see what else i canfind out about the opty 185

My Opty 165 will beat my 3700 San diegos' score in 3dMark05 at lower speeds clock for clock. I put my Sandy @ 2.8 and got around 10,150, whereas my Opty will get 10,980 at the same speed.

there I go.. took the plunge and got an opty 185. It BETTER be a damn good stepping hehehe coz i wanna see some benchies set ablaze compared to my sandy

That'll depend on what benchies you actually run.It'll beat the pants off your ol' 4000 in 3DMark06 as that one has dual core support.Something like Mark03 or Aquamark it won't show as great a difference.Dual core is definitely the way to go though for the future.

hey sammy, once i get my system up and running with the new cpu and im satisfied with it ill be happy to sell u my sandy 4000+. Its a real good one, clocks nice and high over 3.1 Ghz stable with not much extra volts and scores pretty damn good in benches. lowest superpi was 26.summit. Ive noted ur name down and will pm u soon as im set, i should expect my new processor within the next few days, so just keep an eye on ur pm box, oh, i also have the original packaging and cpu plastic holder with that foam stuff to protect the pins


Edit: Also have the original heatsink unused which i will ship with it
