Thanking of upgrading to amd near the end of the year will that be a good time or should I wait to see what the new amds bring out? I'm keeping my GPU. I'm starting to save now.

Never any way of knowing with regard to future ... leaked stuff is never reliable and, to a somewhat greater extent in my view on AMDs side of late, the pre-launch "This [insert new technology here] is going to change everything just hasn't been ringoing true and falling far short of pre-launch expectations (Mantle, HBM, etc) ... Ryzen was a very impressive accomplishment in that it delivered damn good workstation and desktop performance on the same CPU but had a few issues that shouldn't be unexpected on a new platform. However, on gaming boxes for example, it took 2nd place (See TPU reviews on 1200, 1300x, 1400, 1500x, 1600, 1600x, 1800x) to competing Intel Chips. On the workstation side, same thing (See Puget Sound reviews) . Where Ryzen kicks tail however if if you wanna do both on the same box.

So while it's really too soon to answer your question until the new AMD CPUs drop, when they do, it can be expected that most or all of the compatibility issues will be resolved. And this time, I am thinking that AMD just might deliver a few 1st place finishes. But, if you wait, when that time comes, be sure to indicate your intended uses in order to get responses that will align with your needs. Such as ....

Primary Usage: (Gaming 85%)
Secondary Usages: Web browsing / Office Apps (10%), Video Editing (Adobe premiere 5%)

For workstation apps, worth mentioning software being used ... Premiere for example depoends much on CPU, DavInci more on GPU. AutoCAD 2D / 3D works better on GTX cards, rendering apps w/ Quadro

Wait for the end of the year and ask again. But understand, there will always be something new lurking around the corner.

But as John noted, now is too soon to know what will be 10 - 12 months from now. All you can do is build up your budget and keep your eyes open.

On the contrary, a lot of people like RGB, though I sure don't understand why. It does nothing for performance, adds some heat, consumes some power and does nothing for performance (worth repeating!).

I like to pay attention to what's on my monitors and don't want to be distracted by fancy lighting. Oh well. To each his own, I guess.

People want flare in their machines. A lot of people go out of their way to have both the looks, and the performance on their desktop. Its like people with their cars, while sure some of the mods ppl do adds performance, 9/10 they wont ever get to utilize that performance to it's fullest potential because in reality, you cant use over half the shit ppl put on the cars legally on the streets. If it's a race car, thats a different story.

RGB adds very little heat and uses very little power in the grand scheme of things. All of which most of us have beefy, efficient power supplies to handle the very little extra load and enough fan power to offset the very little heat added into it.

Before RGB became thing norm, there were blue, red, green, and even 2 tone lighting LED fans that ppl bought and used and no one seemed to of fussed about it then. And then there were those that didnt and bought black fans with no lighting. But now, god forbid we all have choice on how we want our systems to look. Now if I get tired of a color, I can go into Corsair link and change it to literally any color that I want. Including pink or a frost blue! But because I can do that, people have a fit, dont understand, and hate on it. Why? I dont know. I sure dont understand why ppl hate on it.

You have a choice not to use RGB and that is fine. People like me have a choice to use it and we do and we love it. If there is a reason that you are forced to buy a product that has RGB, just disable the damn thing. Yes you have a choice to choose what color you want, but that color can also be "black" which is the off mode.

If everyone would just respect what other people like and if people just kept their own opinions to themselves (im not saying that is the case here just a general observation about life in general) then this world would be a helluva lot better place.

So long story short, TL;DR, Hating RGB's doesnt make sense. Just turn the shit off if you dont like it.;)

Man, you have been here long enough to know that so many things change a quarter from now, none the less a year from now...premature thread is incredibly premature.

Im not even sure why he wants to. He has an i7 7700k. It basically beats anything AMD has right now. And only time will tell for later this year but if history is anything to go buy, im sure his 7700k will still be better for gaming than AMD.

Yeah I know there might be something planned that I don't know off that y'all might really haven't been paying attention to this site 2018 ces didn't really show anything off in cpu for amd

Zen+, as you likely know, will be out in a couple months. Zen 2 has a while, not this year.

These threads are best when you are actually ready to buy. A year in advance is really a waste since you will start a thread again here in 10 months when you are ready.

Dont hesitate to look for info on your own. Its a valuable ability. :)

Im not even sure why he wants to.
Cause its ntm... its what he does. :)

AMD had the same issue minus one of the flaws. Hell even nvidia was effected by one of them but ppl didnt blow up over that one. No matter what brand you choose, one of them was effected by 2-3 issues or all 3.

And if youre already patched, who cares at that point. Youre patched. No longer affected. Not that you really were to begin with.

Lol, you shouldnt trust amd or intel... seriously.

This security issue really isnt a big deal. I know its tough making heads or tails of it from tpu as its coverage was a shotgun blast mess...AT BEST... but there is plenty of info out there showing negligible differences in game... and mainly in high drive throughput does this really neuter intel cpus.

That being said, BRB going to make my own processor. (and it will have RGB and outperform both Intel AND AMD and people will be forced to buy it because it will be native 16core/32 threads with no way to turn off the RGB )

Its like people with their cars
I understand what you are saying, I just don't see it that way. At least with a custom paint job, for example, on your car, you can drive around and people can see and appreciate it. All sorts of people. Different people every day and not the same small group of friends.

And again, its what you see on the monitors that really matters, IMO.

I am not knocking it, I just don't see (literally or figuratively) any value it. I can stare at a beautifully decorated Christmas tree for hours and continually appreciate and enjoy it. I get value out of that. But a computer case? Meh. But that's just me.

Well of course its what is on the monitors that really matters because if it wasnt, you wouldnt have a computer :p

This goes back to anything anyone likes really. It's all about what you want and what you like and how you want things. Just because a minority is speaking louder than the majority doesnt mean people should talk bad about what others like.

I didnt think that I would like having something like 6 HD120 Corsair RGB fans all lit up and doing their thing while on top of my desk. I thought it would be distracting. But it really isnt. But that is just me.

It is to each their own.

:( Nobody here was talking bad about anyone.

As far as your 6 120mm fans, I might be able to ignore the RGB lights (if they weren't flashing or changing colors) but 6 fans (even quality fans) spinning next to my head would bother. I don't like fan noise.

It may be time to get different fans. If your case supports 140mm you should get them. Larger fans move more air while spinning at a lower (and quieter) RPM.

According to the specs, your Corsairs can get pretty loud at 37dBA. I am really happy my Fractal Design fans.

I need a extra USB 3.0 I only have one port for that on the Mobo I have now I might just get a better Mobo with better software. I don't like the software that much more personal opinion for me.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
That's what I don't like about my msi Mobo the software I don't like makes my fan runs loud even though I have it set on low it's the Corsair pro 120mm fan

Is it the software or your motherboard? Does the headers you have your fans plugged into suppprt dc or pwm control? What are the fans?

You can find this info in your manual...
