Sapphire cards are very solid, I've started buying them since 4870x2 and no one of them has given me issues.

If your sample overclocks to atleast 1200 Mhz it is very worth to get a 7970, otherwise a GTX 680 will be better :)
Anyway performance is so close that you can decide on your favourite brand, be it AMD or NVIDIA

Maybe take a look at benchmarks and see which brand performs better on the games you are interested?

At your resolution, whichever floats your boat would be fine.

I like Sapphire cards. I had a Sapphire 5990 and it was a great card... I'm using a Gigabyte 6990 atm but face it, it's getting behind the times :ohwell:

I hear ya but I'm thinking of going a higher Rez monitor.

I think that going from a 6990 to a single 7970 is more of a sidegrade, still better because it's a single GPU but a sidegrade nonetheless.

If you are going for a 7970 CFX then things are different, why don't you just wait for the 7990? (Like I am btw :p)

My first Sapphire 7970 died on me and Sapphire was awesome with the RMA. Took 12 days from the day I sent it in to get a new card back, which was pretty spot on. Its good to know a company will take care of you like that

The way I see it is the 7970 is slightly faster at higher resolutions then the 680 and the point of ultra high end video cards is for ultra high resolutions. Therefore the 7970 makes more sense to me.

Very happy with mine. Just flip the BIOS switch and it's doing 1000/1450. Runs cool and quiet too. I haven't even really pushed mine with the OC just bumped it up to 1100/1500 and left it there.

Stick with the 6990 man. I am still running 6970 crossfire, and it is not behind the times lol. I've been thinking about going to 7970 crossfire, but I just don't have any real reason to.

You playing eyefinity style or single monitor? If single, then stick with the 6990 until the 7990 comes out or better.

I hear ya but I'm thinking of going a higher Rez monitor.

Isn't this the smart buy right now?

Not looking to change your opinion or start an argument or anything, but my understanding is that this card is basically 97-98% of a GTX 680 and is practically silent on noise levels.

And the price can't be beat last I read, so....

It's the fact you're "thinking" about (lol, you've already decided haven't you) going 30" or possibly multi-monitor that you're going 7970 right?

I like Sapphire cards. I had a Sapphire 5990 and it was a great card... I'm using a Gigabyte 6990 atm but face it, it's getting behind the times :ohwell:

If a 6990 is getting behind the times, can I have it when you upgrade?! :D
