Don't forget that most benchmarks are performed with open cases. I believe most gamers don't use such cases on a daily basis, and real world performance might be quite different.

I literally see no need to spend money on stupid hardware based solutions which will become outdated in whatever time where software based Fast V-Sync is how should I call it, eternal. It doesn't matter what screen I have or what GeForce. It'll just always be there and do its job. Unlike all this bullshit with FreeSync this and G-Sync that. What shocks me more is people jumping on the FreeSync/G-Sync hype bandwagon and hardly anyone raving about how awesome Fast V-Sync is. That baffles me the most out of everything...

EDIT:
Let me put this a bit differently. They can build all this hype around hardware capabilities of Vega, but if someone, anyone could confirm it would also bring in enhanced software based V-Sync (like Fast V-Sync from NVIDIA), I'd be sold this very moment. I'd want Vega regardless after that point.

So fast sync is good for tearing but you can still get frame pacing issues... it is supposed to be used in conjuction with g-sync when FPS exceeds refresh rate...

I still find that putting a cap of 143 FPS and using G-sync alone is the best solution, this is probably true for freesync as well.

Adaptive synchronization(like G-Sync) is not the same as Fast Sync, they are not even remotely comparable. Fast Sync is just a smarter V-Sync with triple buffering, it reduces latency because the GPU still keeps generating frames and the screen displays the latest whenever it's ready. It's basically how V-Sync should have worked all along, I don't know why we didn't get this 15 years ago…

While Fast Sync is better than traditional V-Sync, it's still nothing like gaming with G-Sync.

I don't have image tearing and my framerate isn't capped. I frankly don't give a fart about anything else.

Yup. All I see is stuttering. Regular vsync until Vega and new monitor :)

Here is another video of DOOM with more action

AMD Vega And RYZEN Form Perfect Duo For 'Doom' Slaughterfest At 4K Ultra Setting

HotHardware said:
AMD showed one of the first prototype Vega boards running Doom on a RYZEN system. The game was configured to run in the punishing 4K Ultra setting. The kickass combination of high-end hardware was able to push over 70 FPS in some spots, and easily maintained FPS within the 60 to 70 FPS range throughout the rest of the gaming session with no slowdowns or stuttering.

So this card will be on pair with a gtx 1070 it seems. Price it lower than that and AMD might have a winner.

And yet you still don't get it. A feature similar to "NVIDIA's Fast V-Sync" from AMD would be a deciding factor whether I'll buy Vega or not. If AMD won't offer it, I simply won't be able to buy it, because a graphic card without such feature has NO value for me even if it absolutely obliterates GTX 1080... Do you get it now? And surely I'm not the only one who doesn't have a FreeSync monitor, but is interested in buying new graphic card...

First that was a sarcky joke.
Second your opinion has no value for me on this , you tried one type and know nothing of the others and as for freesync 2 or gsync HDR ,no one knows much if anything soooo it could I say again be as you wish done in hardware ,not a resource based on CPU time.
That would be better.

We know enough. You need a new monitor for that. Next please.
No problem I'll just get one if and when it is worth getting because I am happy to spend as much on what I'm actually looking at as I am the circuits that drive it ,out.

I find it a bit funny though how everyone is raving about framerate in Doom which already runs stupendously fast on all cards. Try running Dead Effect 2 on Extreme settings and then brag about performance. If Doom was super smooth on my GTX 980, Dead Effect 2 really tortures it quite badly. And I have to admit it, graphics do look really nice. So, show me Vega running Dead Effect 2 at 4K over 60 fps and you win me over :p

I think they are trying to rush it out, but yeah... I would think late March at the earliest, probs april. By then you have 1080Ti and Nvidia Volta launch.

Pretty sure Volta is vaporware until next node. It's more like "No, don't buy AMD cuz Volta is coming." There was nothing at CES that said anything worthwhile.

The framerate of the monitor is still capped, but the game don't know. Fast Sync is simply a V-Sync which selects the latest frame without affecting the rendering pipeline. If your game renders at ~120 FPS and your screen is at 60 Hz, it will skip every other frame. If you render at ~90 FPS, a 60 Hz screen will skip every third frame but update every 16.67 ms, making stuttering animations.

Fast Sync is an additional feature to G-Sync, not a replacement.

That is simply not true. If your statement was correct, framerate with Fast V-Sync would be capped. Instead your framerate still goes above refresh rate. It just makes sure no frame is ever rendered mid refresh. Yes, it creates some delay because it's alligning render buffer to refresh, but it's not discarding every 2nd or every 3rd frame...

You do realize that's practically what @efikkan said...
Fast Sync is simply a V-Sync which selects the latest frame without affecting the rendering pipeline.
It's merely buffering the frames and displays only one full frame on vertical sync unlike regular v-sync which holds up rendering until after the frame has been flushed to the screen on vertical sync. The difference is that normal V-Sync holds up rendering until the frame is rendered (or when a pre-rendered frame buffer is filled,) whereas fast v-sync merely uses the last complete frame. The down side of this is that fast v-sync is dropping frames in order to keep it smooth and not tear at higher non-sync'ed frame rates.
but it's not discarding every 2nd or every 3rd frame...
Actually, if the frame isn't used and a new frame is rendered between syncs, it actually is discarding frames. There really isn't any other way to render faster than the refresh rate and not tear unless you do what normal v-sync does. The only way this isn't the case is if when refresh rates go above a certain point that it switches to traditional v-sync, otherwise dropping frames is really the only way to do this.

Then you have no idea what Fast Sync really is.

1) Fast Sync works by decoupling the rendering from displaying the frame. This means the game may render at 200 FPS, and the screen will display the finished frames in it's own pace (e.g. 60 Hz). The game will continue uninterrupted and think there is no V-Sync.
2) The display logic will render the last finished frame, regardless of how many frames was rendered between last sync.
3) The benefit of Fast Sync is lowering latency, by allowing the GPU work unsynchronized the frames may be "fresher" when displayed. Fast Sync may lower the latency if the frame rate is higher than the screen refresh rate.
4) Fast Sync may lower latency of high framerates, but it doesn't affect when frames are generated. So while frames are drawn at a steady pace, their "age" may vary creating stutter.

I know how it works, though I was automatically applying it to my scenario where I have a very high refresh rate (144Hz) and also high framerate which means it'll drop a lot less frames than for someone with only 60Hz screen, effectively making it very effective anti-tearing method.

4K is good.
But for DOOM, stable 90fps is the bottom line. And 120fps is the target for me.
But hey, this GPU is nice to have.

Benchmark Scores 3050 scores good 15-20% lower than average, despite ASUS's claims that it has uber cooling.
Are they using the same demo among the different sites?

In any case, what's scary is the difference between the OGL / Vulcan scores for the 480... Because if the drop between 'DOOM' and 'not DOOM' is 26% on Vega, then they're in a bit of trouble.

How many OpenGL games are out there, sigh?
You possibly wanted to talk about DX12 vs DX11, drop is nowhere as big and AMD doesn't care about OpenGL (R.I.P.) which nVidia loves sooo much it has killed it (by pushing for proprietary shader crap)

Fast Sync is an additional feature to G-Sync, not a replacement.

Fast sync is just good old tripple buffering with a "cooler" marketing name.

So this card will be on pair with a gtx 1070 it seems.
