If you don't need 12 cores AM3 does still have a couple years to go.

It uses a new core, because it has 4 memory channels. It's just 2 glued together six-core chips :)

I was thinking more about the mother board. Stacking is good, but side by side?

I believe it's AMD's take on HyperThreading making Windows see 12 cores when it's actually 6.

If it was threading then why double the size of the chip

We all think things get smaller. But when was the last time your gpu shrunk?
I think its about time cpu's had the room to breath!
I Will get the new 6 core for amd
I just like the fact that it is all going to end.

Non-square chip? Now that's rare!

Reminds me of Pentium Pro's. Socket 8 with a paltry 387 pins..

We've come a ways... 4 cores to 48! 512MB* to 512TB!

*450GX did support quite a bit more memory, 8GB.
