Thought on Having a Laptops and Mobile category in the forums?

just wondering W1z and everyones thought on having the above as a forum category. yes we have nextpowerup, but there is no forums there and plenty of laptop and mobile computing questions get asked in GH category. I for one think this would benefit us and its something that ive noticed and has kinda bugged me over the last little while.

i dunno, i asked about phone sub forums months ago, but looks like kinda hard
but between laptop and mobile, i prefer mobile sub forum since laptop hardware is close to regular pc

personally i want subforum like lounge where anyone could talk about anything, not relate to pc, hardware and software or it news

I think a mobile section to tpu would be a good idea due to the demand, but I don't think it will happen, because wizz wants to keep it hardcore PC enthusiast. I don't think there's an absolute right or wrong on this one.

Micropage7, I agree with having a section where we could talk about anything. They used to have a General Nonsense section here, but it didn't have a post count. Then back in 2009 they opened up a separate forum www.generalnonsense.net (with separate accounts) for this kind of thing and closed off GN on tpu. Doing it like this isn't such a great idea IMO. On my forums, I have just such an area where you can talk about anything you like with the friends you've made on the main forum - and post count works too. One can live there exclusively if they want to and never get penalized for it.

Mobile sub forum could also include mobile gaming, all though there is nothing to stop people talking about those games in the regular games sub forum.

TPU being a purely hard core enthusiast site is restrictive of what the market is becoming. More and more people are going mobile (including tablets) so it would be useful to have all the useful tips tricks and even tear downs (TPU reviewing and benching the iPads against the Galaxy Tabs anyone?!). Not that no other site does this, there are loads, but you know, why not?

I think what would stop wiz from implementing is not having the staff to review, post news and articles, and moderate relative to a mobile subforum. If people were capable of doing it and want to do KT, I'm sure wiz would be open to the idea. The only person that I know that knows anything about Android is Mussels (from his posts at GN) and I'm pretty sure he would like an actual life rather than take on more unpaid work for TPU.
