Thoughts on CPU+Mobo Combo

Hey guys,

I'm new around here in an attempt to expand my horizons in the world of tech forums. Anyhow, I wanted to get some feedback on a CPU+Mobo combo I'm pretty set on purchasing.

The combo would be an i7 3770K and an ASRock Z77 Extreme4. I know the Extreme4 is a little outdated, but I'm trying to stay on a strict budget. The Sabertooth would be nice, but it's a little too pricey for me.

so... what part of the world, what store, what price are we looking at?

$135 is mobo? there are competing options at that price, i usually aim at $150 mobos in general

cpu has HT so if you want fast video encodes or 3d rendering, that's good, otherwise 3570k is fine for most people if they're just playing games at most

i would OC for fun & for the little boost

I'm in FL, so not too many options in terms of technology retailers.

I'm in the process of setting up deals with users on other forums (undisclosed) for an Extreme4 for around $100 shipped, maybe less and a 3770K for under $275, otherwise I have a retailer that will do it for $275 shipped.

I'm a competitive gamer and will definitely OC, but I would like to have the option to stream and 3D render if needed (I've used Blender before with my i5 750, not fun).

I heard that they're a cheaper alternative brand, but still put out solid products.

outdated info, my friend. AsRock is like the 2nd leading mobo manufacturer and they make the whole range of motherboards, from $50 to $300 or whatever

It's also $40 more, but I'll consider it.

How is overclocking with the ASRock mobos? I heard that they're a cheaper alternative brand, but still put out solid products.

But it comes with $50 worth of memroy. So its $100

Its an awesome board. They are nowhere near "Cheaper alternative"

I was on the fence with ordering it at $141. But with the free memory I just order one :)

Any idea how long that deal lasts? I'm holding out until Sunday for potential deals, but I could use some new RAM. I wanted 16GB cause I have 8GB now, but I guess 8 isn't bad.

Alrighty, so right now I'm waiting for Sunday's sales (if any), but I'm currently sitting with a total of $390.08 shipped for just the combo (one new, one open box) or $416.99 shipped for the combo and 8GB RAM (all new).

Still figuring out whether or not a private transaction will take place for less. If that transaction takes place, we may be talking $340-350 for the whole combo.

Which of those is better? And what about compared to the ASRock Z77 E6?

Looks like the ASRock is the favorite according to Newegg. People only have issues with the ASUS it seems.

I have i7 3770K and ASRock Z77 Extreme6. Great Combo!

I too considered ASRock Z77 Extreme4, but turns out it has heat issues while Overclocking so I went with Extreme6 instead.

I was in the same position and went for the asus P8Z77-V LE PLUS. It was either a gigabyte, asus or asrock for me. Imo asus has the best overal quality. Ive been building systems for family and friends for a long time and always used asus with very few problems. I know its just a draw of luck but still asus served me well. I almost bought the gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H becouse it seems like a really good board and i love the black pcb but asus seems to have better fan control and that made me pull the trigger. Anyway gl with your search and have fun with your new build :)

The ASUS only has 2 SATA 6.0 ports. But its a killer deal with the memory
