Also it's much easier to troubleshoot space invaders than it is random black screens and odd hardware incompatibilities that Navi users seem to be dealing with.

I also find it odd that people without even owning or testing a navi card dismiss the issues navi owners have and still are facing 9 months post launch.

I love how a 10% performance loss translates into " sucks big time". The AMD GPUs aren't that good and the driveres suck? Have you seen the new UI and the amount of tweaking you can do with an AMD GPU? Show me a card from reviews and benchmarks that is faster than the 5700XT and at the same time cheaper? There is no doubt that the 2080 Super and 2080TI are faster and both are $1000-$1700 cards even the 2070 Super is a little bit faster but at least 40% more than the 5700XT. All of those cards are way more expensive than the 5700XT. In Canada we have to pay more for parts generally speaking, an AIB 5700XT for $499 is Academic in my mind if you are looking for the best price/performance option.

He's not wrong with this statement though. It wasn't just 10%. FX-8350's ST and IPC was not competitive to what the i7-3770K offered (and it barely matched the i5-3470). It was... competitive at multi-threaded tasks and had good pricing. This is from my experience as I had both (FX-8350 and i5-3470/3570k) back in 2012.

Well the 2080TI is the fastest card you can buy but I seem to remember those cards had dying issues at launch. Is there anyone today that would not take a 2080TI if it was offered to you? I doesn't matter what you or I say or feel Navi does perform as advertised. Some owners of 5700XT have had issues but is that number higher than the dead 2080TIs or any other issues with GPU series ?

The argument here is that bringing up the 2080 Ti "dying at launch" issue can easily be rectified by doing a RMA (or returning the product to the reseller). The only hassle would be the RMA process and time spent, but at least you would be getting a working replacement. And even if the replacement was still bad, you're still within the warranty period. Consumer protection FTW!

The AMD driver issue, even if its just software, is more of a pain as you wouldn't be sure if the drivers will be at a stable state until the developers reach that point. For me, right now, it is stable on 20.Q1.1 (and on 20.2.2 when I tried it in February), but it sure wasn't when I was on 19.9.x, but it did get better with 19.10.x, etc.

If you buy a RX 5700 XT now and install the latest drivers, and it doesn't end up as stable as you want, would you still give the card a chance and keep it as it goes outside the 15/30 day return policy or even the warranty? I wouldn't of kept my RX 5700 XT if 19.10.x didm't address the TDR/blackscreen issues.

This is why I suggest for anyone (not just @Rickkins) to try the card out. If it's not stable after setting it up and configuring it, return it.

I ran the fx-8350 for years and it was an excellent chip, nothing wrong with it all. That Intel had one that was better does not in any way diminish the goodness of the 8350...

In fact the wife uses the very same chip in her computer today, passed down to the boy and then to her, and it still rocks the casbah....

Yeah, the FX-8350 was a great chip, especially for the price compared to its direct competition.

Well, the card came, took a while, but it's installed and so far mostly so good. From what I understand he had to set the fans to "manual" as automatic equaled fans that did not spin. Apparently, manual works just fine...

Thanks again guys...

If the fans don't spin on "auto" mode, that should just mean the fans don't spin until they need to. No point in making noise, wearing out the bearings, and caking the card with dust if thermals are fine.

I've been perfectly happy with mine. Glad you are too!
Edit: I am pretty jealous of your non-spinning fans though. My MSI card doesn't have that feature.

I have had my 5700XT reference for over a year now and honestly had very few problems. 2 drivers gave me issues with blackscreens (20.3.1 and 20.5.1) in Rocket leuge and RDR2, and a Windowsupdate broke freesync since it reset my monitor to a plug and play device with 59Hz, last one was not AMDs fault. After building computers since the late 1990s I must say that in general I have had little issues with drivers and I have had a lot of both ATI\AMD and Nvidia-cards over the years, but there is more frequently driver-trouble with AMD-drivers. However, try a different driver and the issue has been solved in my case. I must say that things now are much better now than 10-15 years ago. Considering I have to pay quite a bit more for the same performance with a Nvidia-card, changing the drivers a bit more frequently is worth it for me, but I understand that someone wants to pay the premium for something that "just works" ;)

EDIT: AMD has 2 annoying bugs, one is a general bugs present on all Polaris, Vega and Navi cards which causes Multi-monitor setups to run dram clocks at highest speed. This slightly increases consumption and temperature in idle from the usual 10W to 25-35W, not much, but a bit annoying. The same issue is present on my 5700XT if I run my monitor at 144Hz, dram clocks stay at 1750MHz all the time. I run my monitor at 120Hz and then they downclock to 200MHz as they should. Both these bugs have been present for years, but AMD has yet to fix them.
