Time to replace 9 year old HDD and 7 year SSD?

One of my HDD and SSD is beginning to be pretty old, so i am beginning to think it might be a good idea to replace them before they de side to make suicide them self. So far they they still work properly, but because of age im beginning to be a bit concerned for how long these drives will still be in working condition. Its mostly my HDD that concerns since the SSD is only used for games, while HDD is for storage for files and backup and it is slow compared to modern HDD and i cut use a bit more storage capacity any way.

what you guys say to it. Time to replace or keep as long they work properly?

HDD is an WD Caviar black 1 TB from may 2009.

SSD in an old Crucial M4 64 GB that is about 7 years old now.

I always keep my drives until they develop errors or die (which never happened to me). I always had better experience with older drives with many hours on them, I have 2x4TB SATA HDDs in my NAS which were previously used in a server and they currently have 30000 hours on them with no errors.

Both my Samsung F3 and WD black 2TB which I had from new developed errors before 10000 hours, so they will soon be retired.

Just back up, use the drives till errors happen, look at mtbf's

My WD Caviar Green is still going from 2009 with no errors. Only issue I have with it is that it's slow, and turned it into my backup drive.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Pretty much what was suggested above, keep using it and maybe make some backup's every now and then.
HDD's can go for quite a long time, I have a few that are 17, 20 & 21 years old (not continuous usage of course) and they still run just fine, albeit very slow and the latter two have as much storage as an SD card.

I have 2 WD Black 1TB in RAID 0 that are at least from 2009, not had a single issue. Why replace working , good drives?

Sounds like every one agreed to that i shall just keep using them until some thing goes wrong like the classic bad sectors. Alright then. Because i ask is that and old hardrive maybe be in greater risk of failure do to mekanical moving parts inside that warns down over time. But al right then i will keep using it but beging to take backup more often of that drive and keep an eye on S.M.A.R.T data as well.

I have had my selv 5 failing HDD over time and so far no SSD. Only on drive had critical failure with means i cut not save files from it, else the failing drives has all accept one been bad sectors and one WD raptor godt unstable after 8 years of use meaning it a time to time dissapired from windows and bios.

If you're going with SSD's, I personally stick with Samsung, Crucial, Sandisk or lately with WD Blue SSD (make sure it's 3D NAND one). But Samsung and Crucial, you cannot ever go wrong with these.

You could also use 64GB SSD for SSD cache and boost the HDD with it using PrimoCache. This way you get basically SSD speed with 1TB of capacity. Both seem in good condition, but SSD is a bit small for games storage. Should be plenty big for cache though.

I change out my drives about every 5 years. It gives peace of mind and then I can sell the old ones in good conscience. SSD I dont. Been doing this for years

the ssd is a ticking time bomb
