ok ladies and gents i have been planinng on getting a new graphics card for some time (i currently have a gigabyte HD5870 1 gb :roll::laugh:) :shadedshu::cry: but it's started artifacting when i switch on, and still use win 7 64 and win 8.1 64
(i have no plans of getting win 10 yet)

now i'll be doing video editing and some gaming, and know that the afformentioned is the only card that has drivers for win 8.1 64, yes i know both of them are old os's, but i like them, they work well, and i know my way around them

so what would you do if you had a titan rtx?
what reasons would you have for not getting one
and what software would you recommend for a card like it?

RTX support is still kinda of non-existent tbh. There are a few games that do currently support RTX (some of these games support it pretty well) and in a few years time there might be even more....

It really depends on if the money is burning a hole in your pocket. If you have to get the best then do it. If not then non-RTX ultra settings for all AAA titles is still the way to go imo.

As for the Titan side of things unless you need the compute cores. Maybe try and find a EVGA 2060 KO

tbh i would have gone with an rtx 2080ti but they don't have support for win 8.1 just win 7 64, and as you already know support for win 7 64 ended in january
yes i could get win 10, but i don't plan on it just yet

I think we have different ideas of what 'kind of non existant'?

Things will start to gain even more momentum with new amd cards coming out with hardware ray tracing and especially the consoles.

As for the op... if need the compute, go for it. Otherwise, there are other cards that will easily get the job done.

so what would you do if you had a titan rtx?

Anything I wanted, because that'd probably mean I'm swimming in money. :)

Don't buy a Titan RTX, it's a colossal waste of money for someone who doesn't know what to do with one in the first place.

I didn't think I would ever say this but I suggest you settle for a much cheaper (figuratively speaking) 2080ti or wait for the new AMD cards.

What I'd do with it?

Sell it off to the highest bidder, duh

Pointless halo card is pointless... We have Ampere at our doorstep that will probably push the same performance to mainstream.

lol
ofcause i know what i want to use it for :p and no i'm not rolling in money
(please read the first post ;) ) it says i have no intentions of getting windows 10 at the mo, as win 8.1 is my main go to operating system
so technically i wouldn't be able to use the rtx 2080 ti or any of the 20 series of cards as their is no driver support and never will be (that was from nvidia itself)

hm as for Ampere i bet that would more than likely be windows 10 only (if it ever comes out with that damned virus affecting every walk of life)

why didn't i want a new system with a 2080 ti?
well like an idiot i bought a i7 5960x and windows 8.1 64 thinking it would be fairly futureproof (it works like a dream for what i need it for) but noone seems to support 8.1 now :shadedshu: ofcause i could just bite the bullet and get windows 10

for the price of a titan in the uk £2350 2,753.75 United States Dollars i could nearly get a whole new system with a 2080 ti :shadedshu:

omg i've just looked and according to nvidia their is no drivers for windows 8.1 64 for the titan   :wtf: :kookoo:
strange though as their was the other month as i downloaded the drivers for it in preparation for buying the card :wtf::shadedshu: then my cat got ill and thoughts of a card flew out the window , £500 cardiologist appointment, then he keeled over and died in my arms a month and 20 days after seeing the cardiologist

well it seems i might have to get a second hand gtx 1080 ti instead if the titan has no support for win 8.1 at all

dam this year just keeps getting better and better

Titan RTX for me would be mainly CUDA accelerated multi-omics bioinformatics analysis. 24GB VRAM, full Turing core at that price is a steal comparing to Tesla cards.

Nah I would not game on it. Work >> Game

As others say it's a waste if you have no clue how to use it besides gaming with it.

It might be call to say oh I play on a overpriced RTX Titan but depending on your monitor/monitors and your need go maybe for a RTX 2060 Super or RX 5700/5700XT it will be a huge upgrade from your HD 5850 you have today.

Why spend about a 1000USD when you are still rocking Windows 7 and 8.1 because newer games might even drop the support for those in the future if some not already have.

Just go Linux. Create a VM and pass the GPU through if you want to game.

Titan users are generally folks into Rendering, Animation and Video Editing, who don't want to invest in a seperate system for both.

Rendering, Animation and Video Editing often favor Quadro professional cards
Gaming favors GTX / RTX
Titan is the best we can get to a bridge between the two

You forgot computation. Lots of people buy this for accelerated computing. In a way the value is great compared to Tesla compute cards.

In my field it is even better than Tesla V100 (Volta)
