TN vs IPS monitors

just found this video, which shows imo the profound difference between IPS and TN panels. I have just got a IPS monitor, and have to say images are gorgeous. I never realised TN is so bad. Watch the video, what do you think?

I'm not going to waste time with the whole video, but what is shown at 8 min is pretty pointless. TN fails hard when viewed off-axis, that's its weakness. Even adjusting your position in your chair will make the contrast shift.
It wasn't terribly annoying when I didn't do any photo editing, but once I went IPS, it became quite apparent.
IPS has some glow, but that's only noticeable when the screen is almost completely black (i.e. not under normal usage).
VA has better contrast though, some may like that better.

The older Gigabyte with the Innolux panel had flickering issues, not sure about that one. Check the TUF 27 too, comparable to the GL850.

Now I have the following:
-LG Ultragear 27GL850
-Asus TUF VG27AQ
-Dell S2721DGF

These three are almost priced equally. And then the Gigabyte G27Q is around 100-140 EUR cheaper.

The TUF has an AUO panel like the older Predator 27 and the Asus monitors, but updated. The Dell is said to have the LG as well but wasn't confirmed I think, and I haven't checked again. I'd make sure of the framesync compatibility with those monitors. As for the Gigabyte, it has a much worse looking stand as well.

That's just the panels though, it doesn't list which monitors carry them. It's the specifications you find when you look up for the production info of a panel itself. Displayspecifications used to put in which monitors use which panels, they're not doing that as much as they used to now I think. Gets hard when they don't have info at hand.

Yeah, they retired that page, sadly.
But you can still guess the panel used based on the specs on the monitor manufacturer's web site.

Yeah, problem seems with newer stuff mostly since the info tends to be available on panels made in the previous years a good amount of the time. They change some specs like candela and things can look different even if it's the same base panel in a better form.

IPS is inherit superior on those aspects, so yes. Having an IPS monitor was a bigger deal some 10+ years back though, since back then TNs actually sucked more. The really good VA panels like Odyssey 49 and those 35 inch monitors seem amazing, makes you wonder how much smearing is still there on that end.

Well the thread is about TN vs IPS but I will add that I recently got a Gigabyte 32QC and I even though I have been on IPS since my QNIX2710 I will say that a 1440 VA panel that is 165 hz with the contrast ratio the 32QC provides even makes HDR at 400 look glorious. There is some smearing but that is very rare and you actually have to be looking for it.
