That gave me a good laugh, I don't think I know anyone that wouldn't see what it was straight away XD

Lol I sure feel very stupid now, but I was sooo totally focused on whether the card fitted in my case or not that I couldn't see anything else.

On a more serious note however, here's my problem:

The 5970 is slightly over 13" and you can see the dimensions of my case in the two photos following.
It follows that were I to try to install a 5970 it would have to go half-way inside the HDD cage. That's where my difficulty lies...

Time to up your budget to include a new case as well. Those pics are pretty bad, but note that your tight case would not handle the 5970. Think about actually fitting it into the hdd section, then routing power cables as well.

The pics are bad... I took them in pitch dark with my mobile phone and with flash on..

I was thinking that perhaps I could plug in the power cables into the 5970 first, then slide it into the hdd cage and slide it into teh pci-e slot.

Either that or I'll use a small metal saw and deal with the hdd cage myself and make it fit. :nutkick:

That's why I wanted to see pics of installed 5970's, to see the whole setup.

If you can afford to buy a 5970, you can afford to buy a case that can handle it. :p

Okay... I know... but I'm kinda too lazy to have to transfer everything in a new case...

If I could rest assured that I'd be safe and that the 5970 enters the HDD cage comfortably, or perhaps I might mutilate the hdd cage and get everything to fit....

would the dremmel shot be dangerous? I mean dust (or remainder particles) from the cage will flow on the motherboard

in that case might as well change the case, since he has to unplug everythings

Nope, I'll just remove my sound card (and my 8800GT since I'd have to remove it anyway) then cover everything up with brown paper sheets  then I got this small tool (manual metal saw, we call it cana in maltese but I don't know the english word), it isn't more than 6" long and bit by bit I'll cut off enough off the HDD cage to get my stuff to fit.

Pls post pics to help me :)

It's still easier to saw up the cage I guess.
I dunno, I'd have to try. I never installed HDD's without any cage whatsoever but well if it means leaving them hanging somewhere it'd be worth trying!

Also in my situation the PSU 'enclosure' seems to form part of the HDD cage, so it might be better if I saw, stretch/mould and fit rather than try to accomodate the stuff the best I can.

I'll try to google up my case - it's an Aeroengine Jr something-I-don't-really-remember... and put up some good 'on-web' screenshots so you see what I mean.

EDIT: I found my case it's this one... :/

thought you had your laptop for gaming?

Uhhh, well it's fine for games... :D

BUT two G92 8800M GTX SLi can't be compared to desktop gpu's...

They're better than my single 8800GT feebly running on a P5B using an E8400 @ 4.2Ghz but well, when there's so much awesome stuff like the 5970 it's so very tempting thank heavens I haven't found it in stock yet! :ohwell:

(if there'd been a question whether I was a graphics hog or not now it's solved :/ )

EDIT:

Back on topic....

5970 in-case pics pls! :)

It seems everyone's pretty sure it won't fit in my case.

But I will be posting pics as soon as I find a 5970 in stock to buy.

My husband's got a 'scissors' which cuts up metal. I'm pretty sure I can do the job with that.
Perhaps not neat (given my patience and disposition) but it'll work, it has to work :p
