this is what's wrong with a lot people on this forum. they seem to think anything below 100 fps is terrible performance...

Lol, gotta agree. Those people would shit with the very fluid and playable 45-60fps I get in Arkham Knight.

I didn't say the performance was terrible, I just said it could be better. A Skylake 6700K overclocked would certainly increase that framerate significantly, with the increased IPS performance helping.

the elitism on this forum has peaked over the past year or so it hurts to read sometimes... discussion for another place tho
I get the impression that you're referring to me with that comment about elitism. I can assure you that this has nothing to do with elitism and simply the desire for good framerate performance to deliver truly smooth, stutter-free gameplay - the whole point of spending big money on a high end rig. Read over my posts here just a few messages back and you'll see that I'm telling you the truth.

I've just checked your monitor and seen that it's not adaptive sync capable, plus it's a standard 60Hz only model, so no, 45-60fps isn't fluid (lots of irregular and highly visible judders) but yes, it's still playable if that framerate can't be increased to a solid and vsync-locked 60fps.

Scratching my head at that one....I'm the one looking at the images and knowing if it's fluid or if it judders. SMH....

And my point obviously went way, way over your head. You're obsessed with frames, and that's a game that doesn't care how good your equipment is. Most people can't even play it, and super-high end hardware will struggle to get above 60.

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled programming. :)

I think there is something else at play besides CPU, which limits framerate. Theoretically your single GTX780Ti should be good enough to hit steady 100+ FPS @1080p on med-low.
There are some known beta issues, listed on ubi forums:
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1376786-Closed-Beta-Known-Issues

Open beta patch mostly focuses on gameplay fixes, so I doubt framedrop issues will be addressed until official release.

Another thing I've noticed is that after changing settings and restarting the game VSync stays on even when it was previously disabled. So, you have to disable it again, start the game session and then properly quit in order for VSync to be saved.
There is also a monitor refresh rate setting in Video options. Have you tried to play with that (mine was fixed at 60.0)?

Also, have you tried to test single card vs. SLI performance?

The graphics just reminds me of AC:Unity and i personally didn't find it that appealing, as for gameplay i think this game would die in space of a month. I got bored of the beta after hour of playing, there isn't really anything exciting in my opinion. The whole MMO element doesn't seem to be present like they made out to be, the missions are kind of easy and only requires just taking cover.

I'm enjoying it as co-op, SP. MP in the dark zone is a bit brutal. Smooth playing, great graphics and quite hard when level matched. Repetitive? Yes, but what isn't these days in gaming.

IMHO there are far more bad games out there than this.

The reviews dont make it look horrible but it does seem to suffer from being repetitive. That is why I avoid games now like COD and BF series. They all pretty much add up to: go to point A shoot guys get an upgrade, go to point B shoot guys get an upgrade. there doesnt seem to be many different ways to play the missions which makes it boring.

It does do much better and it's in SLI too. I've been saying that the game is CPU limited, hence even at low resolution the framerate doesn't improve much.
Wouldn't say that. I run it Vsync locked at 60 and my GPUs hover around 70-75% usage @ 4k. When I drop resolution I can hit pretty much 100+ fps solid. Then, when I disabled the OP shadows that don't really make much of a difference it's balls to the wall fps with my CPU. More than likely you're running out of VRAM because a buddy of mine runs the game fine @ 1440p with a single 980ti.

Edit: Oh yea play fine on my work PC too, it's a 1650v3.

I've taken the dive and paid for a Division key. So far 10 hours in, and quite enjoying it. Maybe I can turn some of the negativity here around, but my experience may change (10 hrs aint that much). Disclaimer: I did NOT go into the Division with the expectation of a very deep MMORPG with guns. It's not deep. It will never be, it's Ubisoft boys.

- Matchmaking services work very well and tie in fluidly, load screens are present but they do allow you to get teleported to the part of the team already in the mission you want to play. It's a nice sneaky way to avoid travelling on foot a long time. Either way, the tech behind matchmaking is solid, and pings are OK in group.

- Good old Ubisoft game elements are present but not as glaringly copy/pasted as they were in AC > Watch Dogs. There are environmental puzzles in the shape of timed missions that have you walk through buildings and rooftops to find a switch. The game uses its mechanics to present challenges in side missions and events, the vast majority of which you have already done before in some other Ubisoft game. The similarities between WD and Division are sometimes striking, sometimes vaguely similar.

- The Division has a slower pace than most other parkour-like open world Ubi games. Some movement and interaction feels a bit clunky (containers can only be approached from the front, or the context button won't work) The challenge in encounters is definitely there, however. Currently level 12, and I've had multiple encounters that really forced a different approach. What I really liked is how the different weapon types are really different, also in playstyle. Snipers really do work. Close combat specialists with a shotgun can really make a dent. Flanking and separating from the group for surprise moves really does have its effect. And the skill trees are quite to the point, offering useful abilities that provide synergy and promote the group working together. If I judge this game for what it has shown me up until now, I say it's a very solid mix between RPG progression and a tactical/cover based shooter. The mechanics work, they are fun to work with, and there is complexity within this simplicity - the learning curve isn't steep, but a smart player can really do more than the stupid one.

- Teammates are generally retarded. But hey, welcome to PUGing, nothing new here :)

All in all I would urge you all to give it a go, just get a cheap key somewhere, I do feel 35 bucks is a justified price for this game, it's content complete, it has fun mechanics, and the repetitive nature is broken up by the mix of solo and open world versus instanced team missions, and the progression curve that unlocks new weapons and abilities as you go along.

Is it a GOTY? Far from it.

Oh, would almost forget: PERFORMANCE

on my system, with some tweaks, I've got solid 60 fps on a 780ti / 3570k@ 4.2Ghz. Occasional drop to 55 but very rarely so, with some minor tweaks from ultra > high on a variety of settings. Pretty much undiscernable from all ultra btw. The real bottleneck seems to be CPU, 4 cores at 100% most of the time. 120fps is a pipe dream :) Luckily the game doesn't really need that.

Just reduce shadows and you're good. Those seem to be the hardest hitting things and they don't make a drastic difference even going to low. You can noticeably see that hard shadows when you're looking for them but during regular gameplay I don't even notice it. Turning them all to low also decreased CPU usage and I have around 20% now.

35 hours in now.

This is just Borderlands: Online. In third person.

Repetitive? Yes. Enjoyable: yes, actually it still is ... :)

Pushing past 100K DPS right now with the Vector 45ACP and loving the marksman rifles too.

Wait, there's a story? I thought it was all co-op and mp.

No, the first 30 'Levels' are focused on a single player/open world roaming experience with story missions and a narrative. It's shallow as fuck, but its there, and the open world is fun. Lots of side missions, and three types of events that give you base reconstruction points, so you can control the way you progress (rebuilding the base opens up new abilities for your character). There is only PVE outside of the Dark Zone and until you reach max rank (30). Thén, the 'end game' opens up proper, and you get access to Challenging missions, Incursions (even harder, very group oriented missions), and the DZ which has a passive form of PVP - all agents are neutral by default, and you can choose to go rogue. There you can rank another 99 levels, which opens up new end game gear as well.

I'm hooked. The DZ is incredibly fun with a bunch of buddies. Yesterday we went out on a 4 man farming run. The maximum group size is 4 man. Then we came across a group of 4 with one guy that we met the other day. We decided to 'team up and rogue together'. Suddenly we were an 8 man team of 2x4 that worked together, and we totally destroyed everything (players/NPC's) in the whole DZ. The ad-hoc alliance worked out very well for us, this was probably the best night in The Division I've had so far, and there is bound to be more to come.

The tension of having a bag full of high end loot with you, waiting at extraction, and seeing another unknown group coming up to it - you have a stand off situation where everyone is waiting for that first strike (when one group goes rogue, the other can retaliate *without* going rogue). The underlying principle of this whole ordeal really gives great, great gameplay.

I never knew I was going to say this, but for the first time in years, Ubisoft has delivered a tremendous game.

Performance Tweaks: If you are struggling with FPS, try this

- Set FPS cap to 120
- Vsync off
- Shadow Quality: High
- all other shadowing settings: low / Sun Low
- AO: low
- Volumetric Fog: Medium
- Post effect AA: Off
- AA: Stabilization
- Object Detail: 30-50%
- Sharpening: 50%
- Extra Streaming Distance: with an SSD: 50% or more. With HDD: :love:0%

Looking at 70-90 fps with 780ti now, with minimal IQ loss and *much* improved image clarity and sharpness. Also seeing improved loading times, which is very useful in this game.

So can I jump right into multiplayer at any point or do I have to complete the single player story?

you can use matchmaking to get thru a bit of SP/story mode. I think that PVP aka Dark Zone opens at level 15.

I would suggest you get to level 30 first and finish the story which should take anywhere between 10-25 hrs, depending on whether you want to rebuild the base as well (which you should). Can be done faster but the SP is quite enjoyable so I wouldn't rush it myself.

After that, levels turn into Gear Score and level 30 gear gets ranked on that, so that opens up the 'end game'. I wouldn't venture into the DZ before that honestly. The other multiplayer in the game focuses on group based PVE, doing missions, which is nice as well - you can do that from level 4 onwards.

Status update: 203 Gear Score, 202k DPS :) Still having lots of fun, hackers and exploits notwithstanding...
