WOW, that's some really dumb and blind AI :(.
The saddest thing is Tomb Raider games never really required smart AI because they were revolving around puzzles and exploration.
But now when game turned into shooter they still make AI pretty dumb. Of course in real life you could never sneak like that.
Another annoying thing, they reduced hud to minimum yet they always shove that popping tips and icons.

LOL, you're about the only one constantly offering updates on the dev progress, yet you sound like a harsh critic. Not a good sign. It's looking like another mediocre game like the last one.

About :45 in it becomes obvious concealment and item tossing for distraction is a bit too easy. There's a guy standing no more than 15 feet right in front of her at an angle that should not exclude her from his view, yet her arm raising up to toss a bottle right over his head goes completely unnoticed save for the sound it makes hitting the ground. And he hear's the bottle fine, yet can't hear her wrestling with his friend no less than 10 feet behind him.

I'm not going to even comment on the AI ability during open combat, because that is typically balanced with many against one, but if the stealth aspects aren't done right, it kinda loses it's suspense.

What sign? I'm fan of the series I just don't like where it's heading. I oughtn't to like everything they throw at us. I'm interested in the game and hope it'll be all right. Just annoyed with timed exclusives and shoot-em-down direction.

I think you answered your own question there.

The sign is even die hard TR fans are seeing the obvious flaws in what they're showing. Couldn't be any more clear than that. In case you misinterpreted it though, I meant not a good sign of where the game is heading.

When the last one's willing to give updates on the progress are crying foul, it starts feeling like the devs are giving a stage demo with only a few people in the room, and a silence falls when they ask, "Any questions"?

Cue the face palms. Or those few people could say, "Look around, can't you see you're losing interest even from your own fanbase"?

I think this will be the title that determines whether the bow/axe/cinematic reboot direction they've gone was a good idea. Until now it's been skating on first impressions and a dynamic change with new graphics, but we'll now see if their shallow gameplay will hold up.

I feel eventually they're going to have to go back to the original formula of cerebral challenges, vs this window dressing that gets old real fast. You really can't mess with tradition too much without things falling apart.

Ah I misunderstood. You made interesting points. The thing is TR 2013 sold really well. Casual players who love kinematics, some fancy fx, shooters and hate tough puzzles bought it. I guess Squenix realized that (they even said that this reboot's gonna be a trilogy) so they rather make this game for casuals than for die hard fans who constantly complain. No matter how hard we hope I guess TR won't ever be the same. Resident Evil games got shallow too.

I feel eventually they're going to have to go back to the original formula of cerebral challenges, vs this window dressing that gets old real fast. You really can't mess with tradition too much without things falling apart.
That would be awesome because long kinematics/shooting bad guys formula is getting really old.

It's being "Syndicated," as in 2012 game compared to the 1993 original: take everything you thought you knew about the game, throw it away, and have this polished turd in exchange.

Personally I thought Tomb Raider was going in the right direction with Tomb Raider Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld. I still play those and enjoy the hell out of them.

TR 2013, while good on it's own merits (as a game, but not as a TR game) went away from that, and I missed it. I enjoyed it as a game, just not a TR game.

I didn't really enjoy LAU

Legend - white obvious ledges, easy puzzles, too much talking with those annoying zip and alister
Anniversary - wasn't a faithful remake, cistern level and Atlantis were cut out, plot changed, now it's all about Lara's mom
Underworld - had no boss battles and why did they bring Natla back? ffs

Positive things about Underworld: Wii controls were amazing, extended bike levels on PS2 were cool and PC version had nice graphics.

However I agree that LAU trilogy had more Tomb Raider elements than 2013.

For me, Tomb Raider began in 1997 and ended in 1999. The rest has been hogwash.

TR 2013,.....went away from that...

Actually despite Underworld having MUCH better puzzles than the 2013 game, it was the first title where we saw a serious decline in cerebral puzzles. Most collectibles were just scattered in transitional areas in clay pots, and you merely had to kick them open to get the contents. There were no elaborate rooms hiding relics with timed apparatuses and death traps.

I'm not entirely convinced they just wanted a broader audience. There are indications they also got lazy and suffered some stagnation in the creative department.

Entirely possible they ran out of ideas...or will to get it done, like you said. some of the puzzles have been pretty clever.

Underworld had pretty interesting Wii exclusive puzzles, unlike Anniversary where Wii puzzles just prolonged your gameplay. It's sad that they didn't include all concepts and ideas which they had for Legend and Underworld. I've seen beta/alpha screenshots and videos for Legend. They had lots of additional levels, bosses, weapons, a jeep level and even a rocket launcher. If they had time and determination they could've made Legend really tough and challenging. Unfortunately it's too short and easy but it had interesting boss battles (sea monster).

Underworld beta had more realistic Lara and better animations. No one knows why didn't they use them. TRU Lara is horrible and they reduced number of frames in her animations.

Anniversary had some interesting puzzles in Egypt (obelisk and rotating stones puzzles) but boss battles are crappy. They're arena-type battles with forced adrenaline dodge crap. They got it right in Legend with "bullet time" which was much better than "adrenaline dodge" but they learnt from their mistakes and got rid of that crap in Underworld but unfortunately they got rid of boss battles as well.

For me the best classic Tomb Raider is Angel of Darkness and best LAU game is Legend.

For some reason I just don't like modern Tomb Raider games. I've started the experience with Tomb Raider 3 and I loved it. Lara was clumsy, movement limited, camera often stupid and she didn't have any special moves and world was one huge blocky platform. But I loved it. India was interesting, loved the pacific with amazing ocean bay in the beginning, amazing forests, the Nevada desert, dirty and dark London and lastly the cold Antarctica. It was so memorable I can still vividly describe my entire TR3 experience.

AOD was one of the worst received titles in TR history, and plagued with many bugs.

I honestly didnt mind 2013 Its not 1998 anymore but Games move on and I wasnt going to Expect MIST level puzzels. Overall I think they did well with 2013. If a bit short. but hey we moved over the 40 hour hump several years ago so fuck me right. but this is what makes my blood boil about this one.

WHY do I have to wait to get it on PC? I dont have an xboxone and I doubt I will own one i fucking HATE them.

B: Could they seriously not just keep the character model from 2013? I get TR before with advancements in tech it was only natural the character model developed as we got closer to human looking characters. but WHY the F@#$ couldnt they just update the model from 2013? She looks like a totally different girl. WTF kind of immersion breaking is this?

Im going to walk over to CD and hit someone in the mouth.

JUST LOOK AT HER did they have to make her look like the clueless starbucks girl that asks you for a pen in highschool? DID THEY?! She looks like shes scared to get on a sled let alone climb a fucking mountain.

so heated. what a crock of shit. im going to play with hyper-v fuck this thread.

It does look like they made her hair and skin darker but other than that, she looks the same. I suspect the hair and skin are due to rendering changes (Hollywood, and apparently Crystal Dynamics, has this misconception that dark = thematic) rather than something deliberate.

Since you ranted about appearance, I'm going to rant about the bow. Remember "hunting" in Tomb Raider (2012)? It was pretty much just a tutorial mission and completely forgotten/ignored for the rest of the game. Why did they waste time on a hunting mechanic when it is so unimportant to the title? That video shows the same hunting theme; if they did the same (you MUST hunt in the TUTORIAL but there is no incentive to hunt elsewhere) in this game, I think I'd rather play Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing.

Tomb Raider (2012) wasn't bad but it also definitely wasn't good. The only reason it sold as well as it did was because it got deep price cuts on PC not long after launch. Publishers learned their lesson: they aren't doing that anymore. This sequel will sell well simply due to name recognition but it won't beat Tomb Raider (2012) sales figures simply because they aren't going to price it to balloon their sales numbers.

I enjoyed the last one, but agree it's not anything like the 1 or 2nd one. It's more like Uncharted with a girl.

I think they look similar. Like I said, everything in Rise of the Tomb Raider is darker so eyes, eye brows, skin, and hair is darker. The jaw might be a tiny bit more square but that's about the only thing I'm picking up on.

The eye brows and facial structure is completely wrong in both characters if you go back to the original:
