Lara kept my attention for only 15 minutes at first, but Aliens kept me going for over an hour.

Well at least here there's reason to believe the budgeted money was actually spent on the game, vs another one. Don't know what you mean by lack of control,. That could be too many cutscene and/or QTE interruptions, or actual awkward control feeling.

For me, Underground was a huge letdown from Anniversary, so despite the big build-up for this one, I'm skeptical. I'll know soon, I'm about ready to start playing it.

Never played a TR game before until now, and I fucking love it. From what I understand though, this is different then the other TR games. /shrug I don't give a fuck, I love it. Game of The Year for me.

I wonder how a 480 or a Titan would fare with TressFX

Yeah AMD TressFX works better on AMD cards, who would have thought?

Its Compute based. And AMD cards do better in Compute then GK104 Nvidia Kepler chips. Its a known fact.

Well it looks to have more combat and less platforming than the others, esp Anniversary. Anniversary got maligned for too hard of platforming puzzles (though I thought they were great), Underground for too simplistic relic hunting. Maybe this one will have good balance from platforming to combat to puzzles.

Just started playing. Only slight bother so far is my min FPS on the benchmark was quite low (max settings with FXAA/TressFX Hair), but gameplay is adequately smooth @ 56 FPS ave bench.

My benchmark numbers with 2500k 4.5GHZ and GTX680 at 1270mhz core.

The benchmark is very inconsistent, since Lara does different things. So really there is about a margin of error of about +-2FPS. Screenshots below are the best I got from a few runs of each setting.

I've gotta say, what a pleasant surprise to see Lara back in action in a deserving game! Last time I played TR was TR2 on PlayStation (one!) and boy how things have changed!

CD nailed the way you feel for your avatar and protagonist, not since playing as Nathan Drake have I felt like I care so much in a game about staying alive! A refreshing change from all these shooters were you're either a lead absorbing sponge (COD, BF series) or a tank (Crysis, Halo series).

Seems like the guys at CD have been paying close attention to what Naughty Dog has done for the Action/Adventure genre, and boy has it paid off!

The game feels genuinely refreshing and the graphics are awesome, unfortunately, TressFX is broken on my card, read that Nvidia is working with CD to release a patch that'll fix this issue, right now, if I enable it Lara's hair flows dynamically and in a natural way, but the texturing is messed up, it looks like a flashing glob of flowing brown spaghetti :p

I love how the game supports wide screen play out of the box, the panoramas look awesome, and the caves and dungeons feel claustrophobic with all the rock and walls surrounding you as you explore, what a cinematic experience!

Love the game so far, Geez, so many good games and so little time! I haven't even finished Crysis 3 yet, and all I want to play is TR!!, What's gonna in a few weeks when Heart of the Swarm is released?? Oh the humanity!! :twitch:

All kidding aside, this is a fantastic game, and all fans of the genre should give it a try, I highly recommend a controller too, it just feels more natural to play that way :)

Here's my quandary....

Titan arrives tomorrow :)

CD and AMD seem to have purposefully hobbled Nvidia cards :(

Continue playing on crossfire or dive in with Titan?

When my card arrives tomorrow I am bi-cardual. I'll be swinging both ways.

Yep, I don't care about GPU performance now in this game, I want to see what difference CPUs make. my ~40FPS in this game is perfectly playable with TressFX on, only genre I like 60FPS is shooters.

Im running 314.07 WHQLs.

You are running Titans, and could be an issue with just those cards right now that Nvidia needs to fix. I have a feeling now that Nvidia has final game code, that there will be quite a bit of performance improvements and bug fixes in next Beta/WHQL release.

Couldn't care less about benchmark and blah but good god this game is way too buggy. Her ponytail is glitched, water can get transparent/invisible every now and then. And now I got the annoying bug in the tomb of the unworthy.

This video isn't mine but I got the same issue. There's no fix for that yet. Argh

Tried the first and second section just now. I'd try to say it feels like a generic jumpy-climby-shooty game but that's not the vibe I'm getting from it

For now it has a singleplayer Far Cry 3 feel to it. The smaller boobage and larger, weaker personality actually makes me feel really guilty for having her dive head first onto spikes in the past.

Having no problems running the game at "ultimate" settings at 1680x1050 on 120hz. Looks great but I can file a complaint that it seems her hair moves faster than her hairs shadow.

I dont remember playing a Tomb Raider game since the original.

Decided to get it. To see what all the fuzz is about.

All this hate on TressFX hair. The normal hair is the generic bad stuff you see in any other game. It swings weird and it goes through her body at times. So any complaints about collison detection of TressFX its worse when its not turn on.

There 5 presets (Low,Normal,High,Ultra,Ultimate) and Advance to Customize the options.
The preset Anti-Aliasing is FXAA unless its on Low, Normal-thru-Ultimate turns it on. For SSAA you'll have to change it in Advance tab.
I understand the performace hit complaints about TressFX (same as the PhysX) but the game atleast to me doesnt start to look good until its atleast on (High) settings. TressFX doesnt kick in until (Ultimate).

Bi-cardual? LMAO

Titan runs the game just fine on ultimate, average FPS at 5760x1080 is 62, more if you disable the hair thingy, it's broken for nVidia cards anyways, and doesn't affect gameplay in the slightest :)

Let me know if you have the same texturing issue with your card once you get it :toast:

Yes, 314.07 and .09 are basically the same driver, I take this is a Titan exclusive issue, or could be SLI related, either way, I just disabled it, the game looks awesome with or without it, and I'm already addicted to it :)

Will wait for a fix too, thanks ;)

I'm gonna have to run the bench and see what I get. I'm playing the game on Ultra with TressFX on and I have not experienced any slow down at all. The game runs great and at a frame rate that seems fast to me.

As for the game itself:

I have about 5 hours in Tomb Raider now. Great fun! More like Uncharted series with Lara Croft than any past Tomb Raider game. But thats not a bad thing as I love Uncharted.

Well come to think on it; Tomb Raider kinda got ideas from Indiana Jones, while Uncharted took ideas from Tomb Raider and now Tomb Raider is taking bits from Uncharted.

The game so far is really good. Textures aren't the best by todays low standards but everything looks really good. the sound track is amazing. Jesus it sounds so good.

Story is kicking ass so far and action is fantastic. Plenty of OH SHIT moments and even though it has QTE in place it is used sparingly and done pretty good.

I love how we have a skill system now which adds a little rpg to the mix. I love how frail she seems at the start and how she slowly turns into the Lara we all know. It's a slow process and you can just feel her emotions in turmoil. Pretty good stuff here.

One thing I wish they did was instead of leaving quivers all over the damned place why not allow us to seek out sticks and stone to make arrows at the campsites? that would have been awesome. As it is I think its a little lame with finding arrows all over the damn place. Who left them there? Why? lol oh well. This game is very cinematic and has loads of tense moments.

I have a ways to go as I'm just really starting the game. 5 hours in and I'm only in the 3rd zone. But so far it is living up to the hype. Voice acting is way up there too. The girl playing Lara is amazing. Very believable. She makes the Lara character come to life!

Can't say I agree. I've played through much of the game and have ended up setting Hair and SSAO to Normal, and turning off Precision and VSync. The frame rates went up quite a bit. With those features maxed at 1080p with max settings I regularly see the ave FPS dip to 30. The first bench I ran showed the min FPS dipped well under 5 FPS.

Even without those features maxed though, I still see the average FPS drop lower than it should, just not as often. This is a game that even with very tame settings can spike from well over 100 FPS to 30. I'm running 13.2b7 btw. This is a horribly optimized game, and another like Crysis 3 that has a wildly fluctuating frame rate window. Anyone that's written a competent performance guide on it knows TressFX, SSAO, and Precison are huge FPS hits.

That said, I don't see the game as very good thus far anyway. I've yet to go to any of the tombs, but most of the gameplay feels geared toward ridiculous combat scenarios and very contrived and repetitious scavenging puzzles. I'm not expecting relic gathering to be much better if at all than it was in Underground.

On AMD everything would be fine if they could keep the min FPS from dropping so low. I don't know, maybe the latest beta isn't the best driver to use.

I'm well aware of that, but on my spec it SHOULD run far better than it does. The fact is it's getting common that games have these ultra wide FPS fluctuations lately.

As long as DX11 has been around, few are really pushing it's features, and most of those whom have aren't doing so well on the optimization end of things.

For the record I'm running it with vsinc enabled as well. I'll bench it tonight after work and see.

I'm fairly sensitive to low frames but 30 fps and higher looks fluid to me. But like I stated; I have no idea what my fps average is but I'll post my findings when I get home.

rope ascender bug ... shit man this game needs a big fat patch ASAP. Enemies spawn, collision animations and so many unfinished/bugged things.
