Update: They updated their page today.

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gpus,4380.html

So Toms Hardware recommends the GTX 1050 as "the best budget" card even though the RTX 570 can be bought for a simular/lower price with two AAA games included.
And yes the performance per watt is not as great but when it comes to performance per dollar there is no better card on the market. The RX 570 is 50-60% faster than the GTX 1050.
I think everyone, green team, red team or blue team can agree on this, no?

I don't even visit that site anymore. They are a mere shadow of what they used to be. Not worth the time to bother with anymore imo

For sure. This alternate reality called media and advertising, don't mistake it with the real world, where people do tend to have quite a bit more common sense than you'd think :)

This is the same TH that wrote 'just buy it' right?

I bet if someone pay you to write BS about their products you will do it, that been said, money talks.;)

Depends, if you're a public figure with a reputation to uphold, perhaps not the best idea. You get topics such as these :)

Well, they do have the RX580 as "best 1080p gaming"...

Perhaps the reason the GTX1050 was chosen over the RTX570 was because most of them don't even require a PCI-E power connector? I'd take the RX570 over the GTX1050 too, but I already have more than enough power supply to feed it. For someone who just wants to game on a crappy Dell with an equally crappy power supply, not so much...

I've recently seen the most proprietary crap ever from an HP computer, with a weird motherboard that had far from standard ATX power supply hookups, and the board itself was far from a standard ATX board. To put a beefy graphics card in there, you would also need a new power supply, along with a new board and chassis! That basically equates to upgrading half the computer.

The GTX1050 should work in almost any computer. If I was recommending a graphics card to somebody, first I'd check if their power supply could handle it. If not, see if they're open to upgrading the power supply, and whatever else might come with that. If they don't want to do that, I'd fall back on the GTX1050.

Did they update the article or am I looking at a wrong page, because the RX570 is listed as the best "budget GPU"?

I guess that leaves Guru3D as one of the few other sites that aren’t worthless.

I like techspot. They have interesting reviews like how well the i5-2500k/i7-2600k handle games six years after their launch.

They changed it, this morning had the GTX 1050

What moderators? They just make the people who post there the most the moderators. So if you have a fan boy who does nothing but toss shade on any brand/oem not in his PC; you now have a moderator doing that exact same thing.

They are practical enough to recommend a 580 instead of 590 because the current real pricing is often much less on the 580 but goofed on the 1050 vs 570 current pricing. GG. In a more competitive marketplace, Nvidia would lower the 1050 to $100 flat. I guess if the 1050 is still selling at $150, then the marketing is successful, no need to lower.

Boy I wish that were true.

But it IS true. Case in point is this topic - the comparison of AMD"s midrange with Nvidia's and how it relates price/performance to sales numbers. In that sense, this is really old news, we've had a topic about this already from the same OP.

The argument being made is that Nvidia has more sales in the midrange with inferior product - as in, less perf/dollar. What's missing is the why. And in that, certain people jump to the conclusion it is some strange Nvidia bias, without any evidence for it, though of course branding/mindshare plays a major role. On the other hand, that topic also contained the idea that the Nvidia budget/lower midrange offers lower power GPUs that are often easier to fit in smaller / lighter builds.

I think that is a display of a lot more nuance and common sense than you'd read on TH. The fact arguments can be made for those GPUs despite a lower perf/dollar is simply the truth, and in this segment, we're talking about price gaps that are not as significant as they are higher up, its not a big deal to spend 50 bucks more on a card that prevents you from having to upgrade a PSU, for example. This does not validate TH's statements, though, ofcourse.

This also brings up another issue of; if your PSU can't squeeze out an extra 50w for a new video card, you are running the wrong PSU or the more likely, don't understand how little power a gaming system draws.

I gotta disagree on this. 50W is not excessive headroom.
