Fingers crossed that they flesh it out sufficiently. Torchlight 2 was good, but I was missing class options a little bit.

i have to make quick run through 1&2 as i've played em so long ago that only thing i remember about them is the name

seeing perfect world is involved triggers some red lights ^^ but lets see how the things will shape out first

Holy crap... didn't spot that. Well, that kinda puts this in a different light altogether... Not in a good way. It leaves the doubts I have watching that teaser (very minor graphical changes, looks even more cartoony and moreover: simple, than its prequels) with a very sour aftertaste instead of 'benefit of the doubt'... Now I doubt this is even worth following

I don't know man, there isn't a single instance of an MMO game company doing well making a non-MMO game. Its like a contagious thing, this farm/time drain oriented game approach. I have no doubt it will infect Torchlight and will be part of a business model.

Heck even Blizzard couldn't resist after making WoW, to infect Diablo with it, blundering its way through the first year of the game.

Well, they started trying to make that online-only, free-to-play, pay-to-actually-enjoy game, and somewhere (very late) along the way decided against it. It doesn't look a great deal different than the original two, except for minor graphics updates. I'm hopeful they've come up with, at least, some new character ideas instead of just putting the same toons out there with different wrappings and different spell names. We'll just have to wait and see, I'm afraid. Tried to sign up for a beta, not sure if anyone's getting in...

well torchlight 2 is also published by perfect world and i dont remember having seen micro store or something.
i think if they leave devs to make the game arpg and not just "give us more money" game it will be fine.
iirc torchlight 1 was made by indi dev which got perfect world as publisher later on.

if you remember the vid that @Ahhzz posted in what are you playing the dev of the torchlight explained that after feedback from alpha testing they've decided to scrap heavy online accent and to go back to more traditional arpg approach.
i am a bit torn about t3. on one side perfect world on the other side "scrap this lets do it like it should be". definitely will hold my purchase till i see some reviews.

Got the first one for free, second one was on my Whishlist, but I never got to pick it up even for a few EUR. I just know deep down, I am not going to get around playing it. I am missing something. They are polished titles, but for my taste something is not there. May be a specific class, may be the vision itself. I will check this one when I get home from work.

Subbing devs that give frequent updates and let us inside so to speak, is pretty cool. I did that for a year and a half with Ninja Theory while they made Hellblade.
