Drawing and sending the PMs is quick. What takes time is waiting for the winner to "add friend" on Steam, then add friend back, then wait 3 days before a gift can be sent due to Steam policy, then send the gift card and keep track of all that for all the winners over multiple weeks.

What about a TPU steam profile that people who want to participate in have to have added as a friend? there would be no 3 day wait then, and you could simply send the gift to the winner.

Lame. 250 is a good number, but I don't think it would be enough for all the folks that would want to eventually join into the giveaways. Only way to boost the numbers is to build your level and you do that by crafting badges from events and the cards you get or by purchasing/trading cards and crafting badges that way. That just sounds like more micro managing, which puts more on your plate.

Even if you hit level 50 you'd be limited to 500 friends.

The only way to bypass it would be to setup multiple TPU accounts on Steam. Once one is full, have folks join the second account and so on. But then you have to manage all the accounts and that could be a huge pain.

No real way to win. Issuing any monetary value even through something like Paypal, you're stuck with paying conversion fees or transfer fees. I suppose the same would be said with other apps like Venmo.

Perhaps you could just have a few people on staff take turns monthly for adding/removing friends on Steam and passing out rewards? This way it's not just one person that's tied up doing it and in case something comes up and the person that should be doing it can't, you have others for backup.

Can you just buy physical steam gift cards and send a photo, or something along those lines?
(Was that the idea that turned out to be region locked?)

What alternatives are there, that are less labor intensive?

That might be an idea. You could purchase the physical cards as Mussels states. Hell, you could have @Mussels handling all of this..........Bhahahaha :roll:

But seriously @W1zzard , you could put someone in charge of doing this and paypal him or her the funds for the physical gift cards and have him or her purchase the cards and PM'ing the winners with the codes.

It would certainly take the burden from you.

also more abuseable (codes have resale value, shit like that) this being the internet i can actually see that be of moderate to serious concern

Hmm, I wonder if a person could contact Steam and find out if they have some kind of gift card giving through Steam?

Maybe they have something to where you contact them, give them the payment and the user name, and Steam contacts the user to congratulate them for winning a free gift card?

Might be worth contacting them.

Hell, I'd contact them, however, I cannot represent TPU. It would have to be one of the admin's.
