thats a very valid question and one of the strongest arguments to throw the forums together
Would it be possible to link memberships for the forums? Registering on one registers you on the other? Would that make things easier or more difficult?

I suppose either way you will have to hire more people, so managing one large multi-purpose forum might not be all that difficult.

I like gamepowerup as the sister site.. tpugames is nice but gamepowerup.com makes it a better sister site to techpowerup..

How about gamerspowerup.com! ? or was that said already? I think that gamers power up will look better on a banner.

Edit yeah it was said but I like it!

I do like Gamepowerup.com. I suppose we could start another thread for the sole purpose of a poll to see what the masses wants to see. I'm pretty sure GamePowerUP.com is in the lead as far as popularity.

And as far as meshing the forums together, I'm sure it's phesable with a few more Mods that are just dedicated to the gaming section (I wouldn't mind helping out in that perspective :D ). If there is a way to have two seperate forums that you can use with one registration that would also be pretty cool and could possibly catch the interest of other sites since it could be considered an ease of access between seperate forums. But I have no idea how easy or hard it would be to do that or enlarge the forum for a fully hosted gaming section.

Again I want to thank everyone getting involved as I'm sure ChaoticBlankness is, I'm very excited to see this unfold and become extremely popular from a simple idea that we both agreed on and seeing what others thought. But this just isn't an idea of ours, it's everyone's ideas, opinions and suggestions that are going to make this worthy!

:toast: to TPU! and to the future of GamePowerUp!

Perhaps have three different people review each game. One from a eye candy-performance standpoint, one from a gameplay standpoint, and one from a general view. I learned more about Halo (PC) by playing it with others (LAN and talking about the game) than just the solo mission.

Halo

Today we are testing the First Person Shooter PC game developed for Microsoft by Bungie and Gearbox Studios. First we will consider the game in general, what it has to offer a player and the basic game theme.

Bla bla bla, man boobies. $29.95 at Wal-Mart as they hope some poor schmuck will buy it since he has never played Halo but saw the commercials for Halo 2, doesn't have Vista and doesn't realize that you can have Halo 2 for XP.

7/10 As some game companies made games and the price is still almost as high and no patches have been made to fix the masses. That is at least worth two higher points with me. Bang for the buck if you are new to this game or genre or gaming it is a OK place to start and get a feel for online and single player for the price. LAN's with the game are fun and cheat free.

the second aspect we have is that of the gameplay and character and theme development. I found Halo to be a all areola good game for the alien interaction and human forces. For the ring planet it was based on the feel of the planets continuity and viability along with the sheer size of some of the areas you will play in make you truly feel that you are there. The underground caverns are intriguing and the ever present ominous music and sounds can make your spine shiver. Most controllers work with the game that I tried and work as well as can be expected for a FPS. I prefer a keyboard and mouse, but there are some out there who cant let go the their controllers. Online is fun, but is plagued with cheaters and young kids who like to talk shit or whine and call you a cheater when you throw a sticky bomb on them and run.

Overall gameplay deserves 2 scores, one online multi-player, and one for the single player game.

Single player 7/10
Fun, fast, can be as hard or as easy as you like. Plot ties well togeather to create a good experiance.

Online Multi-player 6/10
Fun, fast. But with alot of cheaters, it could use a better anti-cheat system to help it keep going. It has potential to rival CS:S if cheats are kept to a minimum. Online setup for a server is easier than many games, and fast. Mods are available but not as popular as other online games.

The third aspect is performance and eye candy. Lets face it, the game is a port, and a mediocre port at that, not that it can't be played but if you want all the eye candy you had better be bringing more than minimum specs machine. the lowest playable system with the following settings I have found are as follows.

1024X768
2X AA Driver forced
6X AF Driver forced
Medium quality in game settings.

For this I used a 2.8Ghz P4 Prescott with 512Mb of RAM and a 9600XT at stock, onboard sound. This ensures decent gameplay and almost no lag along with a good looking game. Specs below this should look at upgrading their whole system if they want any sort of filtering and higher resolutions.

The next system I tested was a 3200+ AMD system and a X800XT with onboard sound, all stock settings.

I used 1440X900 widescreen and it should be noted that that is the biggest resolution this game supports natively, you can I have heard force a resolution on the game but it just stretches the pixels. This was done to prevent some from havening largely unfair advantages in game from larger monitors and higher resolutions.

1440X900
4X AA Diver Forced
16X AF Driver Forced
All high settings in game.

Even with the better hardware the game is still a bit laggy in some areas with alot of enemy's or players. A system with a bit more power should run this game fine with max settings.

5/10

Performance score directly reflects my disappointment with a MS backed game using so many resources, and being so mediocre. HL2 well outperforms this game, and with better graphics.

That's what I want to see, is users reviewing games and having the ability to post their opinions in a format that could be considered a review. Pro-Game reviews are good, and sure TPU should have them, but I think having member reviews that even if "beyond release date" could still be a viable post/submission for those still pondering on getting the game. Not everyone goes out and get's most of their games on release day, I rarely do even on games I am excited for. I usually wait and see what people have to say, I'll read some pro reviews, but I like to read what the masses think, what issues they've come upon, what they like/dislike, what they changed in settings, etc. That is kind of part of the strategy I'd like to see. Even if it's a full review done by multiple users, having multiple systems varying in levels and such is an excellent idea and should stay as a requirement for reviews.

I take game review like a grain of salt.

I've liked many games that have had bad reviews. I end up waiting for the demo and just see my self. i do check for things like if it's a short game but really don't bother.

Whot could help in a review is to have more than 1 person doing the review lets say 4 people with differant idea's on how it is. Then from that put all the reviews into one.

I think that TPU's game reviews should be primarily from a technical standpoint, and all reviews should follow a set format so that each review covers the same ground as all the others.

Kursah,

well, being that game reviews vary, quality varies, there are always those over achievers that put mega effort into everything, how about getting a trial run on a game review, have those who participate review one of any game of their choosing...old or new.....then submit it to whomever….review them…then announce the top 5 reviews, post them….allow the readers to vote…winner gets to have the first official review spot/ and game of their choosing for winning……

This way you get the traffic flow concerning interest and input.

That is exactly why I wanted three different people with different likes and dislikes to do a review, then merge them. Bioshock for example, widescreen and textures on signs (WTF for?) would have been covered. Installing on multiple PC's would have been covered. And minimum specs.

Well what should the game be to try a community based review for? Who should be involved?

I vote cdawall, it'd be good to have those specs play games, as a lot of people run with those but still wanna game.

I guess really all we need to do is pick a game, that everyone happens to have at the moment, and have people submit different reviews. Should there be a format set or should that be a free deal for this?

Any suggestions on the game?

Plenty of peeps have BF:2, minus me. Gimmie a review to go pay too much for a slightly broken game from what I have heard. You listening EA, I want a reason to buy your crap. From this forum, not from your screenshots made from supercomputers that only run that one game. Go install it on your secretary's PC and give us a movie and screenie.

I don't have BF2 I have BF2142, pretty much the same game slightly tweaked with different textures and vehicles. Still fun stuff, it's addictive especially when you can get friends involved.

I'm curious to see how many BF2 reviews will pop up! Let's see em! :rockout:

Dunno, we'll have to wait for W1Z to make that decision and create it.
