I've never been into Grand Theft Auto. Seen the videos and reviews and playing a gangster never did it for me. Then I played GTA5 on my mate's XB1 the other day - and I got it!

It was tremendous fun being naughty. Ya know, running people over, shooting pedestrians and coppers for no reason, casing the joint, going to strip clubs (getting thrown out of strip clubs) and generally being a reprobate. :p

The strongly satirical ads and programs on the in-game TV in particular are hilarious. There was a game show on there called Fame or Shame where they were looking for the most racist man in America, for example. Say whut?! They had an ad there for kitchen cleaner that would kill literally anything. It kept going like this and some of it had me in stitches! The whole game is one big satire.

So yeah, I'll be getting GTA5 when it comes out on PC.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Nope. Don't bother to play them if it looks like I don't like them.

I don't have time but to play a title or two at a time these days (married with children, career, reviews on top of that). I'm also older than most in here so I don't have teen/early 20s friends with gaming systems to try them.

Probably missing out..but I don't really care as I'd rather be outside doing something anyway.

I would also imagine that plenty of TPUers like GTA series...but cute thread title regardless!

GTA IV actually. I waited YEARS after it came out to try it just didn't think it was my kinda game like you. Picked it up for a Fiver during a Steam Sale and couldn't stop playing it and bought EFLC right away. I have had GTA V bought for PC since August.

The GTA game I liked the most was San Andreas. GTA4 is good but it annoys you with timed missions (people call you and you have a set time to meet them). San Andreas had a similar system but once you activated a mission it would remain active until you took it.

Awesomenauts and Civ V, those are the only two :p Only because my friends kept begging me to buy them :p (I guess I should thank them, because I ended up loving both)

You should try Saints Row 3/4. Professor Genki's Super Ethical Reality Climax!!!

I think the success of Saint's Row likely made Rockstar take GTA a little less seriously.

I tend not to prejudge games. I can't think of anywhere I thought it would definitely be horrible and it definitely was not.

Yes, though it was about a genre and not a specific game. Had no interest in UO, EverQuest, or that new Warcraft MMO back then but today I'm into them. Been playing LOTRO for the last 4 years and have tried others. Recently started a trial of FF XIV and it looks like I'll buy it (on sale until tomorrow in case anyone was interested, CE for $20 or Standard for $10).

As for GTA my favorite by far is Vice City, probably due to growing up next to South FL. I play through it every now and then. SA was definitely a good one too, but I've only played through twice due to it's size. Did IV once, and I've been meaning to play through it again. Perhaps after my Fallout kick (just did 1, on 2 now, then 3 and New Vegas) I'll play through them all again to get ready for GTA V PC, except for 1 and 2. They were fun back in the day, but it's hard to play them again as they didn't age well like Fallout IMO.

Agreed on every point. Vice City was excellent, San Andreas' length turned into a negative, GTA4 worth replaying but struggled to finish the replay, and GTA1 and 2 didn't age well. Only point I disagree on is Fallout; I never played it despite owning it for years until a few months ago. I can only stand to play a few hours in and lose interest much like GTA/2.

No, it has never happened, and if it ever happens it will most surely be a sports title.

For me, I never liked RPG games. Not that I had even tried them, it just seemed boring to me. Then in 2007, after reading multiple times about the then-awesome graphics, and the fun gameplay of Oblivion, I figured I would give it a try in 2007. I still wasn't expecting to like it.

I guess I had what you call a good experience, because by then it was all patched out and the mod community was Booming for it. I went through the game quickly, then was like a kid in a candystore with unlimited money installing mods. I took it right to the limit of it's engine, and have played hundreds of hours on it, played Morrowwind, and now played over 400 hours on Skyrim.

Today, although Total War series is my favorite still, I will play almost anything that is even partially RPG. So yeah, I've had this experience on a large scale for an entire genre.
