Does anyone know if it's possible to dual boot ms dos 6 and windows 98? I have read that I would need to have an FAT16 partition for DOS.
Yes as long as your motherboard has a boot-time boot menu(commonly on F12, you board may vary), you can install DOS6 to one drive and Win98 to another and boot to one or the other during the POST sequence.

Beyond that, the post above by @jak_2456 seems a good option to.

I guess that it's "enough 486" for the BIOS to report it as such.

Did you guys have a 750 Ti? I had one only for a while as a backup back in 2017 when I sold my 970 SLI setup and I got the 750 Ti from my friend.

I have a Quadro card that performs near to a 750ti. It's kinda inbetween a 750 and a 750ti. It's a great Windows XP card.
I have a 750Ti, I should bench it too, but I think the one @lexluthermiester is talking about is the Quadro K1200 - bloody fantastic XP card, especially being a 45w LP part you can make a very efficient system. It's basically a slightly cut down 750Ti so I should compare them to see how big the difference is.

Looks like that Quadro has 750's shader and other unit count, but higher clocks and 4GB of GDDR5.

Wonder how a K2200 would perform vs. 750 Ti since it has the full GPU but also 4GB of VRAM.

Looks like a solid combo! What system are you pairing it with?

but I think the one @lexluthermiester is talking about is the Quadro K1200 - bloody fantastic XP card, especially being a 45w LP part you can make a very efficient system.
Due to site issues, I couldn't respond to this earlier. I was talking about a different card...

...this one. The K2200 Dell version is an excellent card. I could swear I ran it on XP at one point but can't find the NVidia drivers now. Maybe I'll have to look on Dell's website. Dell's famous for doing their own thing.

My bad! my mind jumped straight to the one I already own, the K2200 would of course be even better and in retrospect it seems more obvious you were talking about that one.

I'm also chasing a K620 so see how the littlelest Maxwell can do in XP :)

The K1200 is a very good LP, single slot card. I've been looking at one for a Dell 3090 SFF system. It's currently got a K620. I've also been looking at the P620 or P1000.
I'm trying to decide if I need the extra 2GB of VRAM. Likely going to just pull the trigger on the P1000.

I can't find XP drivers for that card. It's starting to annoy as I'm fairly certain they existed at one point.
I think I might have figured it out though. The K600 does certainly have XP drivers and is a reasonable performer.
The limitation is the 1GB of VRAM..

For XP unfortuantely it won't support pascal but I'd hands down go for a Pascal card if it's supported.

K600 seems quite slow like GT710/730 DDR3 territory, K620 I am very keen to test against my GT710, GT730 and K1200 to find the deltas.

FWIW I had to perosonally mod the drivers to get the K1200 working in XP, I'd imagine it's the same for the K620. It's a super easy process at least just adding some strings to a text file.

Glad to see it works. I remember you mentioning that you suspected that the caps were bad. What's the story with that?
Boiled down to sellers PSU being flaky. I installed mine and it POST'd straight away with no PCI cards inserted.

It does need a recap down the line tho - Nichicon HM from yhe bad batch around CPU and Teapo everywhere else.

And another win, this time with my MSI MS-6168 again. Apparently MSI took a 16MB board and crippled it to 8 by not populating the registers for 16MB, defaulting it to 8MB.
IMG-20240917-WA0029.jpeg

The RAM chips on my board are Samsung KM4132G112Q-7. Roughly the same chips used for Matrox Milennium G400, model G4+MDH4A16G, except the ones on the Matrox are rated for 166MHz. Not that it really matters since the 143MHz chips can also do 166 flawlessly as seen above.

Technically... yes and no lol

The core is indeed made from GTS, but the card itself is the Geforce 2 Pro variant from MSI (all searches of the said card return as Geforce 2 Pro).

I do wish to land my hands on a 3D Annihilator 2 but you've guessed it already - prices are steep af.

I have a PCChips M848LU Socket 462 mobo. It's not a good board, though; it will just randomly freeze the whole system. PCChips ended up getting bought by ECS ages ago.

I was extremely lucky to stumble onto a GeForce 2 Ultra some months back, a 3D Prophet variant. Seller seemed like he didn't much care what it was or what it was worth, and accepted my offer of $50 AUD immediately and couldn't wait to hand it over. I got very lucky.

My GF2 GTS gave up the ghost while sitting around, it was a GTS-V variant though (Underclocked) so no huge loss.

Luckily I still have my Quadro2 Pro/Geforce2 Ultra for all my GF2 needs.

I have a M871G that did freeze too, but I think it was a memory issue, it still has the CPU too, probably working

Nice retro setup! 32GB is solid for a Win98SE/ME setup. I would definitely nudge you toward another stick of 128MB or even a 256MB to give Windows a bunch of room to play in. Only a suggestion though.
