I didn't think they existed. I knew about the 7900GS AGP but not the 7950GT.

Does it beat the HD 3850 AGP?
Not sure but I think the 3850 will be the winner in that case, given it uses GDDR3.

Ofc not... The Radeon HD3850 AGP is the ultimate fastest AGP card out there, the only rival it has is the mid range next gen Radeon HD4670 AGP, that is actually better in terms of power consumption, heat, PSU requirements, and some of them have also HDMI and other stuff... Now in terms of raw power the HD3850 is just fastest, but since the usual/ normal AGP systems use platforms like Pentium III, Pentium IV, AthlonXP or maybe Athlon64 x2 on AGP s939 system, it wont matter if someone put Radeon x1950 AGP or HD3850 AGP....

About GF 7950GT AGP, that was Radeon x1950 class card, so to even consider the HD3850 vs 7950GT is insane, since the HD3850 will wipe the floor with the GF7950, is prob x3 times faster....



Nice cards i see here, Rage Fury MAXX, GF7950GT, Ti4800se, HD3850 AWE64 Gold and 3Dlabs Wildcat... Tho i never get too excited by trashed parts from scrap with all sort of scratches, bent pins, missing SMDs and other stuff... But these days seems is harder and hard to find good stuff, that are not from the scrap, i haven't seen much rare things at the local craigslist, seem all are gone, or most.... At least i have way too many things, and i just need some in order to fill the gaps... Still i see big decline of rare and interesting old parts after 2020.... Maybe after the PLANdemic the world entered alternate reality who knows....






Since Radeon HD3850 AGP was mentioned, here is my hotfixes for that great and very rare model of HIS IceQ 3 card... The AGP bridge is getting burning hot, so adding this will help for sure, then leaving it bare... Also these very rare models of HIS came with some dumb af fan profile stock, so they overheat hard, if someone happens to have or find HIS card, just to edit the damn BIOS the fan curve, as stock is so low, it overheats the card... After the fan curve fix, the card is running cool....

I plan to use one of these coolers, all better than original:
a) Sapphire HD4870 512MB cooler
b) HD7970 cooler
c) 3870 PCI-E cooler
d) X1950XTX reference cooler from A$$US

The hardest will be for X800 and 9800, the stock coolers are crap for 9800 and almost non-standard for X800s
6800 and 7950 if they work good, if not into the trash they go with all FSP PSUs I have, not worth trying to waste time on nVidias more than Geforce 4 and maybe 5 series, 6 is already bumpgate territory and 7 is full blown bumpgate

Better from scrap than greedy OLX/craigslist sellers which think any nVidia card is worth any penny, even more so those who think retro = loadsamoney, I gladly raise a fk you middle finger to those who think that way, you're the cause for which prices are scalper-level bad

Anyways, next boards soon will be an AW9D-MAX and a MSI K8N SLI Platinum, while I despise nForce 4 for being the most godawful heater for it at least it compensates with onboard Creative audio... the AW9D needs new BIOS and the 8400GS it comes with gets the bin since those are unneeded anywhere

Also an X1800 PCI-E in the form of a FireGL in the upcoming days

I have the top high end MSI Diamond SLI 939 mobo (not sure what is the difference between the Platinum and the Diamond, aside from mine having x2 chipsets like the old boards, running at full dual x16), it has a bit better stock cooler, but when i powered it on to BIOS, after just a 2-3 minutes, i did touch the southbridge, it did burn my fingers, what a shock, did even discolorate the heatsink lmao.... Did not expect it to get so hot, just in BIOS and for brief pwr on test, but it did... God damn nGreedia chipsets are hot as hell... I like only nForce II 400 Ultra, as it is waaay better, all chipsets after that, are small, and hot to the melting point... Not sure why they added heatsink to the VRM of the platinum, but not one on the Diamond, maybe to reduce cost lol...

Well everyone can blame scalpers, miners, retailers whatever about the current retro and modern GPUs market, but when u think about it, when there is demand about something, ppl will buy what they can, then sell it, and scalp someone... Is capitalism at its finest... Guess is only natural old stuff to get expensive, look at vintage cars, vintage watches, coins, and other collectors items.... Hell the computer market is not even that bad, compared to the rest.. What about comics and other crap, where 1 rare item can be sold for millions... Meanwhile Voodoo 5 5500, is expensive, but is not 1 million $ expensive.... Or vintage cars, some of them do sell for millions of $ and even more...
 
The AGP bridge is getting burning hot, so adding this will help for sure
Seconded, I've done the same with my Sapphire model. A flat NB heatsink with the push-pin loops cut off will work great.

My other tip would be to create an idle (2D) and game (3D) profile for the GPU, VRAM and voltage. My card would always run the highest clocks and volts, regardless of the load. That created unnecessary heat and noise, and would have posssibly shortened the card's life. I experimented with ATI Tray Tools to find the lowest/highest stable values, saved them as profiles and enabled automatic profile switching.

That way the card runs on minimum power outside of games, until the OC profile kicks in.

FWIW the one I'm receiving has an actively cooled NB... no idea how but as long as it works I'm okay with that, hopefully it won't end up in smoke since it otherwise looks like a good one chipset aside (and ATi chipsets unfortunately didn't have much traction. to the public outside A8R32)

Yeah IDC about demand and supply - keep the prices enough so everyone can enjoy it. 3dfx I'm probably gonna stop here before I rant about how they were greedier than nVidia

Good boards, but the damn chipsets are hot as hell... Mine i found brand new, from very old computer store, and they still have old stuff like s939 mobo, 9800GTX cards and others, they also had listed Radeon HD2900XT, sadly when i they gave me the bulk cardboard box with HD2900XT label, i opened it with excitement, to find inside some garbage small card like HD3400 or whatever the fk it was, i was so pissed, as this model is one of these i look for, and was also brand new, but some fker did steal the card and replace it with that crap... So the MSI Diamond mobo, i am sure will hold for years if i decide to make system with it, since is brand new, i will overbuild cooling, in order to try preserve that POS chipset, of cooking itself.... Yes ATi chipsets did not last much, they had like what 1-2 models or maybe 3, not sure why they did not get as popular as nForce did, prob they were like VIA lol...

As long as someone wants something, and is willing to pay ebay prices, there will be someone that will be happy to sell it to them.... 3Dfx, i am hater of that company, as when i did research about them, i got the idea that, they were more greedy then nGreedia, looong before they became nGreedia, is also why they did go bankrupt so fast, as they tough they are Intel in the video card space, they may have been for short amount of time (that being Voodoo II), then they started milking the architecture, also delay the Rampage chip, that was next gen, and was supposed to make them leap in performance (if they did launch the 3Dfx spectre cards, by the time GEforce 256 was introduced, they would have trashed them, and prob buy out the gree(D)n eNVious company), but 3Dfx delayed the Rampage, as they wanted to milk customers with i think the Banshee at the time, or was something else... Anyway 3Dfx got what they deserve, for being too arrogant, greedy, lacking innovation (yeah even ATi and MatroX had 32bir color, but we are the almighty 3Dfx, we dont need this, we have Glide and crowd of fans). They also backstabbed all AIB partners with the purchase of STB systems, crappy AIB vendor, not only they made them all go to the competitors ATi and nGreedia, but they also spend A LOT of money for it, and that was when they hit the final nail in their own coffin....

I am sad few great companies, that had promising start like Rendition, and PowerVR, got out of the game, and never to be seen... Sure PowerVR is in all Android phones, but why the hell they dont do GPUs... Their last attempt with PowerVR Kyro II, the card was amazing, and the Tile architecture was so good, they could compete with half the resorces of what nGreedia had at the time, too bad they left the market....

Will see some day i may do something like this, tho is annoying.... But i think the temperatures of the system and the card was fine, i did tune the fan speed, with proper speed, so the card to run cool. But every advanced user absolutely needs, to install heatsink or at bare minimum small fan, to prevent AGP bridge chip card of frying its small bridge chip and die... Similar goes to other insane heaters like nFrorce chipsets above NF2, hot CPUs like AthlonXP and others.... nGreedia cards usually have their cooling better as the small amount of AGP bridge chip cards, have the chip on the front, and with heatsink from the factory... Tho i dont like that idea, as it heat the front of the card even more... The ATi approach is better, but they suck at the part that, they did not add more then a damn thermal pad to the AGP bridge chip, and in the case of MSI Radeon x1950 AGP, they did not even add the damn thermal pad, not that i think that pad does much anyway, but still...
