of course you can't max out this kit with sandy bridge or X58 platform

Thats weird,

I was able to run 2133Mhz on my X58/990x and overclock it to 2500Mhz

If you have an exceptional IMC in your cpu than it's plausible, however with ivy bridge cpus it is completely avarage. My tri-kit optimal frequency ranges roughly between 2000-2250MHz, with very thight timing with CR1 of course.

I got the Asus motherboard working :clap:it was a pain in the neck ,getting it all connected outside the case with those front panal connecters they are so fiddly. :( The white PSU i got with the case you see in the photo I for £5 on F.B.M ,that must be one of the best buys i have bought.:) One thing though is the fan on the board is noisy:(I am now going to see if the MSI board works ,once and for all.I might try that in my other case the Sillberstone one.:)

I have just tried my MSI board no luck with that. :( fans spin for a bit then start again power button you have to keep on presing it to shut the PC down .I could only put the fan in system fan 5 p2 .14 the fan could not reach system fan 1 with the board outside the case.Would that make any difference?under the speaker connection there are two connections for Power led i have all-ready put them on JFP 1 with the other front power connectors, should i take them out of the front panal connecters and put them under the speaker? And no sound from the speaker?o_O

The only cable from the front panel that needs to be connected to the MSI is the speaker. The MSI motherboard has a power on button, which you can use for testing. There should also be a stick of DDR3 RAM in the blue slot closet to the CPU. You need the CPU fan plugged in, but a system/case fan isn't required to POST the mobo.

To be fair, it's over a decade old now..
This. I've recently started to see Ivy and even Haswell units being used as XP machines... Gee, time DOES indeed fly.

Considering the 2600k I got was a really sweet deal for how much I paid for it ($66 - about 300 RON in our currency) and the fact that it accepts 775 coolers as well (although at a kinda funny angle lol) is what makes it great.

Vintage gaming PC. This Phil youtuber is all about running older hardware with older software. A mid-range Sandy Bridge with a mid-range video card is going to run XP era games at the speed, or better, than age-appropriate high end (and sometimes hard to find/afford) hardware.

I guess I should have worded it better. This would be for 32bit gaming, right? I've read that XP 64 but does not run very well compared to Win7.

Yes, 32bit games. He only put 2 or 4 GB in the build in the video above. I've never used it but have read the same about XP 64, very bad driver support was the biggest issue IIRC.

Man, that's no kidding!!!!!

I tried XP 64 bit for about 2 days and went right back to 32 bit.

Hell, I'll bet there are members on the forums that don't even know what 32 bit systems are even like.

Just had another thought. If one can get a Sandy Bridge / Haswell to run WinXP-32bit just fine, it kinda takes the wind out of building anything older except for the fun of it.

I prefer i7-3770K cpu with any quality Z77 mobo because everything has XP 32-bit support, you don't need any workarounds/tricks. You can also use the integrated GPU for early XP games just fine, also even my GTX 680 HOF card has XP 32-bit driver support.:)

XP x64 was actually repackaged Windows Server 2003 with Luna UI and other home user-oriented features slapped on top of it.

I used it for years before Win 7 came in on my 775 machine. Didn't have problems with any HW I used in that setup.

I never used a 64bit OS until Win7. I even had a couple of Vista 32bit rigs, which worked fine for me with 4GB of RAM.

I think going this route is for the guy who has the retro software but doesn't want to spend all the money on the old hardware.
I was fortunate enough to buy some nice stuff over the years (and kept most of it), and I was able to find a lot of hardware (newish & old) left behind in office buildings and get it before it found its way to a dumpster. I personally enjoy the build with the old hardware, configuration, and benching of the old systems more than playing through Far Cry again. :)

Is the yellow wire on the correct pin on JFP2?

View attachment 280692
As you can see from the photo it is in yellow.and all the over connectors are in properly.
GPU and CPU fans spin for a few seconds then go off and back on again , changed the CMOS battery and changed the Ram the Ram sticks.over.Can you see any grime in the ram holders.?
Keyboard not working nothing on the monitor. No sound from the speaker..I think this is a lost cause. Can you see any grime in the Ram?I am getting used to putting the front panel connecters I have done it enough times now. :)
