Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
I miss single slot cards.
so do i ... and cooler that do not look like an hygien pad, damn! since someone made me notice that about the new Zotac cooler ... i cant unsee it
but some worse silly cooler always have existed ...like most of the Yeston RX 5000 and 6000 line  but, what works, works and that's what count.

thanks but missed both :ohwell: because someone thought it would be fine to set an autobid from 1chf to 150chf ... and i ain't paying silly price anymore! (not that i ever paid silly price either ... aside my previous GTX 1070 Armor for 526chf, the price was silly but the insurance covered for it  )

Indeed, they're the Formula line of cards. Most well known are the 4770, 5750 and GT630, or so a Google search yielded.

Anyways, another flea market score. Gigabyte Z68P-DS3 + i3 3220.

Probably among the very few to NOT use UEFI, but instead classic Award BIOS. Also, the mSATA slot - I might actually track down a SSD just for that purpose.

I just wrote the same thing on another forum couple of days ago, it would seem that our retro hardware enthusiasm is about to end... I know for the fact that mine already ended - I'm officially done with retro hardware & probably won't be making any more builds unless I can source the necessary parts for free (or at least for some reasonable price).

You can probably understand why, right?! Even the cheapest, most generic components such as ATI Rage IIc AGP cards (and similar) now cost 3, 4, sometimes even 5 times as much than what they used to, several years ago. Not to mention Slot 1, Socket 370 & other boards from around that time period - these things are getting ridiculously expensive to the point where it's cheaper (and safer) emulate old hardware through VMs. Obviously I still have some of the gems left over from back in a day, but to be perfectly honest with you, I'm afraid that something could (and eventually would) happen to it, if I keep on using it on daily basis. I'm especially referring to those incredibly rare builds such as Asus P3B-F Slot 1 mobo with 1.4 Tualatin Pentium 3 for example, Aureal Vortex & Audigy 2 ZS sound cards and/or Voodoo2 SLI.

Heck, even the more "generic" components such as the Quantum Fireball HDD and/or BTC CD-ROM drives are becoming impossible to find for reasonable price - last time I checked these things were ridiculously overpriced!

Edit
From what I can tell, the average price for Rage IIc is between 25 & 35 USD, while the Quantum Fireball 3.5 series (ATA) drives sell for $35 & above. Some of them even go for as high as 70, 89 & 99 USD! All ATA drives, none of them are SCSI or brand new (as in new old stock)

yep pretty much summed up

although i would still be attentive in case someone get generous  one can always hope and i am a hopeful one (within reason of realisme ofc )

the most hilarious, all my retro hardware were acquired on the cheap, and now i am probably sitting on a pile of cash... but i won't sell anything unless it's for a really good reason

Good point! :D

And right, same here I suppose. Assuming I get the necessary components for free, I'd be more than willing to put something together again. It's not like I'm against it or anything, but I can't afford to spend that much money on something as trivial as old computer parts ... even if I could or wanted to.

On a side note, I'm glad I finished my Adison restoration project(s) while I still had the chance & necessary opportunity to do so. Emotional bond aside, some of those Adison builds are just amazing in terms of technical specs. Talking motherboards, Lin-Lin S370 (Tualatin) adapters, multiple Voodoo2 SLI configurations ... you name it! I could easily sell some of it & theoretically get a LOT of money but I'm not going to do it, either. Well, not unless I absolutely have to ... we shall see what the future holds for all of us.

You know what they say, it ain't hobby if you're not hiding the bills from someone. Or tl;dr being an enthusiast is expensive.

This is all good & fun for as long as you got the money to spend... That being said, I'm already way ahead of you. Few years back I made a (very) stupid mistake of venturing back into the vinyl. I grew up in the late 80s and early 90s (in all its analog glory) & thought it would be nice to spend some extra $$ in order to buy something more expensive. Long story short, I bought myself a brand new $500 turntable, along with $180 second-hand Pioneer HiFi component system.

Now, let me be absolutely blunt - I don't necessarily think that buying either one was a mistake, as both of them lived up to my expectations. That being said, I found out just how expensive HiFi world actually is, which eventually led me to dead end. I no longer had the cash to buy the actual music, even though I had all the necessary gear. Still do, to this day ... I even tried to sell some of the components but the market is flooded with second-hand HiFi components, so there's no way I could ever get the money back without losing significant amount (which defeats the whole purpose of selling everything, to begin with)

Moral of the story? Stay away from expensive hobbies if you can't afford them, as they have tendency of turning into the financial nightmare.

ah, my Powermac G4 Quicksilver is a bit younger than that one (2001) ... but i use it everytime i can just for fun ... (well 1999 in 2020 for the video, 2001 in 2023 for me :D 11 vs 12yrs, I WIN! oh wait, he might be still using it in 2023 ... *sadface* )
yep, the one i paid 23 time more in shipping than i paid for it :D (23chf shipping )

i may hate the company but i love the hardware the G3 and G4 were quite nice and their cases were awesome, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy too expensive for what they were, no matter how innovative the case were, the hardware was relatively average compared to a same value PC imho, although it was quite high end on the CPU side (mmhhhh IBM PowerPC) and for audio ...
and Apples products are still that way, which enabled a few other, mainly in the phone domain, to price their devices too high, luckily the alternatives are always 2 to 3 time cheaper, unluckily due to brand loyalty (or blindness in some case) they can keep these obnoxious pricing.

currently tracking 2 auctions, one on a TNT1 and one on a Matrox... *finger crossed*
I have a first gen g4 tower I got from a dumpster, and I have a love hate relationship with that thing.

What the G4 can do, and what it cna be upgraded to do, are truly impressive. OSx 10.4 is very nice, as is the special 10.6 homebrew patch that runs great.

But damn if apple are not the most obtuse company, even back then. Upgrading this thing is a total nightmare and troubleshooting it is enough to make you go bald.

Welp, a Z awaits me as well. Though mine is two "stories" down than yours - a MSI Z77X-G45 + i5 3450.

How many PCs do you own? To everyone on here:)Just as a matter of interest regarding people selling a motherboard and showing a CPU with thermal paste on it. I messaged the guy saying I hope you have put new thermal paste on it, It was such a
a mess :(I looked at the sight again he had removed the photo of it.

I'd estimate about 20 , and I'll list them up in a short CPU/MB/GPU config to keep it as short as I can:

1. AMD K6-II+ / Luckytech P5MVP3 / V3 3000
2. Pentium II 400 / Intel WS440BX / GF4 MX440 (Gateway GP6-400)
3. Pentium III 650 / ABIT BE6-II Rev1.1 / GF4 Ti4200
4. AMD Athlon XP/ MSI K7N2-Delta ILSR/ 9700 Pro
5. Pentium E2160/ ASRock G31M-VS/ Intel IGP (for now, it's getting rebuilt anyways)
6. Core 2 Duo E4600/ Gigabyte 965P-DS4/ HD3450 (to also be rebuilt once I can get a Xeon on it)
7. Core i3 540 / Gigabyte H55M-USB3 / HD4850
8. Core i7 860 / Gigabyte P55A-UD3 / HD7870
9. Sempron 145 / - TBD - / - TBD -
10. Phenom II x2 550 / - TBD - / - TBD -
11. Phenom II x4 965 / Gigabyte 880GM-UD2H rev 1.0 (modified) / - TBD-
12. Core i7 - 2600k / ASRock Z68 Fatal1ty / R9 280 (HD7950)
13. Phenom II x6 1055T/ ASRock 890GX Extreme4/ R9 280x (HD7970)
14. Core 2 Duo E4300 / MSI MS-7336 / iGP (used to be a HP dx2300, might crossflash the mobo at one point)
15. Core i3-3220 / Gigabyte Z68P-DS3/ iGP (until I can find some more GPUs)
16. Core i5-3450/ MSI Z77X-G45 / iGP (same situation)
17. -TBD- / ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0/ -TBD -
18. FX8300 / ASRock 970 Extreme3 /HD7850
19. A64 3500+ skt939/ Foxconn NF4UK8AA / GF7300 (will probably swap the GPU for something else
20. Celeron G1820 (temporary) / ASUS B85M-E / iGP

Out of those, the following were used frequently up until I left home for a month (busy with work): 7, 8, 12, 13, 18.

What I plan to do:

- scrap 4 as I don't really have much use for a Athlon XP anymore
- possibly scrap 5 since not really sure what I can do with a E2160 - the case might be worth using for a compact Phenom build w/ another 880GM-UD2H, rev 1.4.
- 9 might also be scrapped before it gets to the dull buils stage, unless I can unlock the Sempron (yes, in case y'all were wondering, some of these Semprons unlock into 4400 and 4500e Regor core Athlons. Does take a while to reform the disabled core.
-10 will probably replace 5, assuming the Spire cooler I have from my dad's old PC, in conjuncture with a PWM fan, can keep a unlockable Phenom II 550 within sane temps on the Gigabyte 880GM-UD2H rev1.4.
- 7 will probably get a slight CPU and GPU bump
- 11's fate is yet undecided, until I can fully confirm if the M5A97 LE R2.0 is FUBAR'd or not.
- 20's fate is also undecided for now - I need to install a CPU retention socket on it and a CPU, neither of which I have with me at my dorm room, but all the 800km way, at home.
- 13 needs a recase as the KME CX-6059 I used for it gets a bit too toasty under heavy NFS Hot Pursuit sessions.
- 12 might also need one + a new PSU as the Spire Jewel 420W unit on it isn't exactly the brightest choice I could do.
- 18 awaits a case and some RAM sticks - I need to source some cheap Kingston HyperX DDR2 Blue or Mushkin Enhanced RAMsinks for the actual 2x4GB sticks I have at the moment ( Corsair Vengeance, 2x4GB, 1600MHz DDR3) as their RAMsinks are a cruel joke.
- either 15 or 16 will take the place of 4, along with whatever GPU I can find at the flea bay this weekend.

And that wraps up most of my builds and plans.

Not mentioned:

- EX58-UD5 + i7 920
- ASRock 960GM-VGS3 + Athlon II x2 250
- P5B + Q6600

How many PCs do you own?
I have 4 primary computers. My gaming PC (in sig), i5-4670 Z87 PC for photography software, an HP 8300 SFF (got for free) HTPC connected to the TV, & an HP notebook with 7000 series i5 that's a daily driver.

There's an unfinished room in the basement that has a workbench and shelves with video cards, motherboards, HDDs, ODDs, a box of CPUs & a bin of RAM. I have 5 or 6 cases on the floor if I want to put something in a case instead of a bench build. So I don't really have a list of PCs like Maxi, just a bunch a parts to create a build I want to play with.
