I am looking for some software that I can use to keep tabs on where my kids surf and email. They are deleting browser history so I need something better. Also something that they do not know I have installed. Free would be nice, but I will pay for something good.

Thanks

i've not dealt with it, but some routers can keep records of all web addresses they go to. smart kids will bypass it if possible using proxies, 3G connections etc... its quite hard to track what people do if they want to bypass your systems.

Give em some good old adirondack trust. Just talk to them and let them know what to look for. That's how 99% of us were raised. I have a wee lad and we always talk about how we are going to raise him.

The hardware route (routers) is good, that's what I used when my kids still lived at home. Email is going to be a hard one. They can just keep changing their email address. Good luck with whatever you do.

Why not just confront them about deleting the browsing history? I don't see why you need to spy on them when you could just you know.. talk to them. Even better, its free.

just leave your kids alone, seriously. if i hated my mom because of something, it was her trying to intrude all the time, there were some epic wars started over this.

How old are your kids if you don't mind me asking? I'm surprised no one has asked because in my opinion that is rather relevant to the overall discussion especially since you are talking about monitoring their e-mail.

You need to do what my sister does with her kids . Sit right next to them every moment they are online . One thing you should be doing any way . Kids are to smart these days and if they do not like this then just lock them out of the computer totally !

Stick a traffic sniffer something like Iris on the same router that they're on, and sniff all the traffic. Then it doesn't matter what proxy they use, it still has to go thru the router. If you install software, they'll just use something like Malwarebytes to remove it (which hates a keylogger). But when it comes down to it, you need to have a long discussion with the kids about what's acceptable. If you want to track them, tell them that if they delete history and cookies, they lose the computer. You let them use the PC with the understanding that they're responsible for their behavior. If they can't be, they don't get the PC. Works for my daughter. I can't control what she does at her Mom's, or school, but those are the rules at my house. If she tries to cover her tracks, then she's obviously doing something she's ashamed to let me see, so she doesn't need to be doing it.

In a case such as this Banning her from emails phones and computer internet should be done . Till she understands your rules about this . And just sit next to her as long as she is online at all times . This is the best way to keep things from getting out of hand .

I would suggest doing everything except trying to monitor her e-mail (unless the trouble is very severe), while you may have her best interests at heart that is something to be considered as a much bigger invasion of privacy than the other forms of monitoring you suggest and if my nieces are anything to go by then that could cause her to simply stop listening all together.

You can remind her that she is a minor and being a minor she has no real RIGHT at all to be online in the first place as you have to enter into a contract with the ISP and sign it and since a minor can not enter into a contract well she is NOT allowed ONLINE AT ALL ! This is what I told my kids . They were not allowed online !

Sorry to reply this old topic. Because I am facing this child problem too. My son is 16 years old, I think he doesn't want to talk much with us and doesn't want to listen to us. But we worry about him since he is so addicted to computer and we are afraid that he may go to adult sites and dating sites, so it is a big problem, whether we should track his computer?
I am here to ask for help, please tell me how to do.

Sorry to be the one to tell you, but at 16 that's kind of expected. Not the dating site part, but I wouldn't worry much about that. I just got out of high school and not once did I hear anyone mention a dating site(unless you count facebook), pron on the other hand... it becomes a bit of a hot topic around age 12. It really becomes less of a thing over time as morals start to set in and it becomes apparent how fake the whole thing is. It's better than the alternative.

Computer addiction can be quite the problem though, I've been addicted to the computer since I was 5 and I'm just now admitting to it. And I'm one of the few kids that refuses to get caught up in the cellphone/facebook trend. The problem is mainly that there just isn't much else to do but sit on the computer all day. You can't just tell your kid to go play outside, you have to be more specific than that. A lot of us really don't know what to do outside. Maybe see if you can get him into biking, hiking, or something? You'd be the one to know what he's interested in.

And as an 18 year old, yeah I avoid my parents. If you want to get past that you're going to have to find a common interest or something. At these ages your parents become strangers to you, and it really doesn't help when you have a mom like mine making fart jokes whenever possible. There is an equal amount of awkwardness on both sides.

Good luck :rockout:

tbh, if hes gonna watch porn let him, he will do it anyway. i did and it kept me from having the urge from doing stuff to all the gfs as much as i would of without it. so kind of a way of not getting a girl pregnant

the blocking of sites well all depends how much they know about computers.

Thank you very much for your answer.
I am not strict at all and I respect him, but we just care about him because we love him, he thinks we are stupid parents. I ask for help because he is so strange recent days but he doesn't tell us. Oh, I am trying hard to build a good relationship.

That's good to hear. I've actually always kind of felt that my parents weren't strict enough believe it or not? :wtf: It's normal for us teens to become a bit distant, just make sure to keep up normal face-to-face conversation and things will be fine. :D I never really got the whole cellhpone tracker, parental controls thing. It's nice to have parents that actually check up on you every so often instead of just setting up some 'set it and forget it' software. It shows that you care, but don't expect us to admit it.
