Oh, so this is a remake of the original sora no kiseki 1st chapter?

I've stopped following the news of the kiseki series for quite some time now. I don't know how far they've gone to in this game universe. Or have Falcom finally run out of idea and decided to remake the series with better graphics? I actually quite like the original graphics. Looking at the trailer, these new attack animations could easily feel repetitive very quickly.

They are still publishing new titles in the franchise at a shockingly fast pace. Seems like every 18 months there's a new game. I know some people who are skeptical of this remake because it's "unnecessary," but I believe Falcom wishes to appeal to a wider audience. The 2D art of the original is rather plain and unremarkable by modern pixel art standards (or even by the standards at the time it first released), and it can be a tough sell for newcomers of the series.

IMO, this current “generic anime” look they are going with on their new engine isn’t really an improvement pound for pound. At least when I look at their older sprite+3D background based games like Ys on the Napishtim engine or Trails in the Sky it does evoke old Falcom. Since Cold Steel they kinda went very generic. Arguably the most visually interesting game since was Monstrum Nox, and that game wasn’t an inspired looker either. I say all this as a big Falcom fan, but they do need to get their art side of things in order.

I kinda agree with you. While I enjoy the Ys franchise a lot, I still think all modern Ys titles before Memories of Celceta are what made this ARPG franchise unique in terms of gameplay and graphics.

Yeah I just looked up the kiseki franchise on google. The latest one was published in Sep 2024. That's amazing. 20 years since the Sora no kiseki FC was released and they still manage to write new stories that happen in the same game world as the first one.

Now that I think of it. It makes sense to re-release the oldest titles in this franchise with improved graphics. Newcomers who would like to experience the full stories of the kiseki series can now do so without going back 20 years.

And then there's me and my sorry arse still trying to Platinum every game in timeline order for the full story, and barely made it through Cold Steel II, while CSIII and CSIV are still waiting. And given how much I loved the original Sky games, I'm going to end up replaying them again instead of completing CS.
