I ran across this article today and thought it was worth sharing:

Save $80 on your Windows 7 purchase - the Upgrade does full installs, too
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2009/1...indows-7-purchase-the-upgrade-does-full-inst/

I don't advocate buying the upgrade version without owning a copy of XP or Vista first - that's just plain dishonest. I have an OEM copy of XP, and I just received my 7 Home Premium upgrade discs. Since I have to do a clean install (no upgrade path from XP), this trick will save me some time and effort.

This is so strange...wonder what MS was thinking?

I've got a (still shrinkwrapped) 7 Pro Upgrade box right in front of me, and on the side of the box it clearly states: "All editions of Windows XP and Windows Vista qualify you to upgrade". On the back of the box it says that if you are upgrading from XP then you need to back up and do a clean install, which is fine by me...but I wonder where the disconnect was down in Redmond.

Did the "Box Printing Team" not get with the "Install Routine Team"?

At any rate, thanks for the protip! :)
