@purecain - I feel your pain, at least my story isn't as much of a kick in the sack as yours seems to be. Best of luck with it all.
I stopped selling old hardware some time back when I was selling off stuff on Amazon. It took place 3+ years ago now, selling off one of my GTX 280s (original box and all contents) - I think it was a whole whopping $50 + shipping costs that the customer paid.
I tested the card out, verified it worked. Took screen shots of it being fully functional. Passed this information along to the customer before the purchase. GPU ships out, about two weeks goes by and the customer contacts me through Amazon market complaining that the card was DOA (sure, it's possible something happened during shipping and the card isn't working) and was requesting a refund. The customer demanded I pay for shipping the product back. I told them to send the card back and they'll be refunded upon it's return.
Almost two weeks pass when the card finally shows up at my place. I take the card out, check the S/N, look the card over, verified everything that was shipped out in the box was returned and then I tested it in my computer. It boots up just fine. I run 3DMark Vantage and even ran a couple of games on the card, no issues. I took a short video and pics of the card in use and how it was functional and how the customer was lying in their claim that the card was DOA. Amazon customer service removed the negative review against me and I was not required to refund the customer for shipping costs. I refunded the cost of the sale and that was that.
My guess was the customer didn't realize what they were buying or they lacked a proper PSU to run the card and tried to spin it back on me. Screw people out there that want to do this and waste my time. I'll refrain from selling hardware unless it just happens to be here or I'll just hold it for hand-me-downs to my younger brother who's too cheap to upgrade his own PC....or for my kids that need a computer of their own.
