Wow, I can not believe whats going on... I sold a titan Xpascal on ebay and the seller has turned around after two weeks and started saying that I should give them 350 pounds back and that this is not the Titan XP.
when I sold the card which I describe as a titan Xpascal. I contacted the buyer by email and warned him this item was not the titan XP and that it was the titan Xpascal and yet two weeks later he has tried to return the card through eBay.

fortunately they took my side so he has now opened a paypal dispute. Theres absoluitely nothing I can do about it if Pay pal decides to accept the return. it cost me 300pounds in shipping and ebay seller fees.

So even though I warned this buyer this card was not the titan XP I may still have my fingers burnt... Will update... I should of stuck to selling hardware on these forums...

Sucks. It also sucks that people can't or just fail at reading.

I see this a lot when I sell things online.

Not too long ago, sold a double sized bed. Put all the measurements along with it, some pics, literally all the info was clearly presented. A day later I have five emails from different people asking what the measurements are.

Just yesterday, got a text from my dad who is selling his Bose Acoustimass system. I made pics for him, including a clearly readable picture of the product sticker with serial no. The text from my dad asked for exactly that. Buyer didn't care to look at the provided pics with the ad.

Some people are dicks.
He probably tested the hell out of it for two weeks then decides he's had his fun and can easily get a refund through Paypal, to get a better card.

@purecain This is what so puts me off selling anything on eBay nowadays. I used to do it several years ago and even then their seller protection wasn't all that great. Then they had some policy change which weighted everything in the buyer's favour, allowing scams like this to be perpetrated easily, so I stopped.

Thanks for the heads up.

Had this happen various times

Sold some 18” Lexus wheels with full description and measurements of the wheels. Mind you shipping cost almost just as much as the sell. Guy bought them and told me they fit and he likes them. Weeks later I get a dispute stating I sold him the wrong wheels not described and that they didn’t fit and he wanted a full refund. Took 2 months for PayPal to close the case which I ended up winning only because I saved all his prior messages stating that they had fit.

Had another incident where I sold a Reference R9 290X and listed all the details of the card. Guy bought it and 3 weeks later claimed the card didn’t work Andre he wanted a refund. So I asked him to send the card back and after I tested it and made sure it was the card I sent I’d refund his money. Guy refused to send the card back stating he wasn’t required to. I spent weeks on the phone with eBay back and fourth trying to solve it luckily they dropped the case after sometime only because the guy stopped responding.

Sadly with eBay sellers always get screwed in the end. That’s why I choose to never sell on eBay now. Forums only

I prefer to sell locally than to sell on ebay because of those types of f-ckers + shipping and fee cost.

When in person, you can make sure to show the product and its condition so there's no way he can call you back saying that it's not the product they ordered.

Damn humanity, what have you become.

Doesn't Ebay still own Paypal or did they get a divorce? If the former all I can say is GL with that refund guy, if the latter #reallysucksman as even if they guys at Paypal have common sense you still have to deal with the hassle of having the funds tied up while they investigate.

They split a long time back. The claim from Paypal is Get what you paid for or get your money back. If the item was described properly then the buyer shouldn't have a case.

i dont understand. you said,

"Wow, I can not believe whats going on... I sold a titan Xpascal on ebay and the seller has turned around after two weeks and started saying that I should give them 350 pounds back and that this is not the Titan XP.

either you got some major errors in the way you described what is happening to you or just have some shady selling practices.

i was pretty sure i knew what you were trying to say. i recommend that you make those corrections in your initial post. most community members here try to be courteous and will overlook it because they understand the situation. my reply was worded in a way to bring it to your attention for an immediate correction. also i felt that i needed to point those typos out sense most of the first posts did not.

good luck.

Really sorry for you, that kind of trouble is the stuff you really don´t need in life.

Hearing this and other stories like it put me on high alert for any kind of private online trading be it buying or selling. Till this day I did not experience anything to this extend personally, but everytime I make the decision to buy something from ebay or sell something I have serious stomach ache before and the days after. I always expect something to happen.

For your case, Paypal should be on your side. Just get in touch with them and describe it. Stay simple, display clear written facts. I hope everything will go right.

Ugh, I've heard so many horror stories about selling on ebay. Heart goes out to people who actually try to do real business there. So many ways to get screwed.

To me, if the description is clear and detailed enough, then the burden is on the buyer to know what they're paying for. They can't just turn around and say "HEY, THIS ISN'T THE THING YOU NEVER SAID IT WAS!" If it's not what you wanted, you shouldn't have bought it. And if you can't read, how did you get on the internet? If you're going to lie, at least make sure it's not entirely contingent on you simply being too stupid to read. That's gonna be looked at, you know? Holy shit, man. Middle school level tactics.

Sad situation on the other end. Too dumb to read and too dumb to execute a convincing scam. Where does a person like that go in life? I'd like to know who gave them the money to buy the card...

Seems like you have what you need to prove that you did your part. Stick to your guns. You likely have the proof with your e-mails, not to mention the listing itself. I've heard of some dumb crap sliding through, but somehow I think this isn't gonna fly. If anybody was gonna give, it would've been ebay, not paypal. It'll be a real inconvenience, though. Sorry you have to go through that. Don't let it get to your head. Not worth it.

If you have everything in writing and ebay already denied the seller a refund due to buyers remorse most likely what will happen is PayPal will side with you as well. If I were you I would contact PayPal via a phone call and present all documentation of the case made with ebay. I don't see why they would side with the buyer at that point. You did absolutely nothing wrong.

Just forward them any correspondence you had with the buyer. If its crystal clear what you were selling and you told him in your messages multiple times what he was getting then he shouldnt have a leg to stand on. Worst case scenario is Paypal decides to refund him. I would honestly take it up with a small claims court. Might cost you some money but technically you have been reverse scammed.

I highly doubt he's had it sitting on his desk for two weeks before contacting you about it. I think he's tried something with the card and its not gone well so he's attempting to get his money back.

I tried to sell my Titan on eBay, scammers galore. Delisted and sold for cold cash locally. Better to have some cash in hand than a few more bucks that might get recalled 45 days later or whatever.

Yeah. sadly its one of them things. Whenever i list something I get loads of messages from opportunistic lowballers and there isnt a way to block them from messaging you or taking part on your auction.

Sucks. It also sucks that people can't or just fail at reading.
I see this in where I work due to state laws and now city ordinance. Signs posted every where but people still don't bother reading yet it's somehow my fault I have refuse sale.

Yeah. sadly its one of them things. Whenever i list something I get loads of messages from opportunistic lowballers and there isnt a way to block them from messaging you or taking part on your auction.
My first few sales of cheap items (books, DVDs etc) I put up in auction format and the bastards always got a helluva bargain, with really low sale prices. If I put shipping charges on them, they simply bid lower to compensate. I was so pissed off. I then sold more expensive items (Windows Vista Pro, new, sealed and used graphics cards) at fixed prices and immediate payment only, which got me the money I wanted and I never went back to the auction format.

My first card sale I got scammed on, because the buyer lived in France and I didn't spend the extra for tracking to the door so he opened a "didn't receive item" dispute and won it, even though all his messages were unclear and fake. Didn't make that mistake again. No more foreign buyers and always used tracked to the door. As I've said in my post above, I've still not sold anything on eBay for years now since they went all pro-buyer and by the sound of it, it's worse than ever.

But the buyers are getting scammed with fake Nvidia cards going by some of recent thread posts here at TPU so it may not be a bad company policy that eBay is backing up the buyer.

My first few sales of cheap items (books, DVDs etc) I put up in auction format and the bastards always got a helluva bargain, with really low sale prices. If I put shipping charges on them, they simply bid lower to compensate.

That's hardly their fault, is it?

Why would you list it or even call it a Xpascal ?
