I had a baby eyefinity setup a while back, decided to step it up a bit.

I'm running two 5850 toxics and a 5870 in trifire. I've rigged some fans to blow on to the cards, the bottom card which the connectors are all connected into is idling around 67. I know it's the one most starved for air and after monitoring the old republic beta last night it didn't get past 90 but it's got me concerned.

So here's the question for those running crossfire eyefinity. Does the card with all the connections typically run hot? When I monitor the other cards, they seem to be throttling down and don't get hotter than 50 c. Is the main card doing a majority of the work?

Wondering if I should put the connections into the 5870.

BF3 is playable but any AA shuts it down to non playable and I've gotta go medium to run it. The resolution is 3240 x 1920 as an fyi, system specs on the left are mostly correct.

I know at such a high resolution I should expect some high temps but I haven't monitored it in BF3 which is more graphics intensive and I fully anticipate it getting over 100, I don't want to fry my rig if I can help it.

Also, is anyone else running at this res on say, 6950's or an sli setup with 560-580's with decent luck.

I know I'm being limited by ram but may be willing to sell these cards off if there's another solution out there I can afford.

i use a couple of 6950s @ 5760x1080
idle on desktop - card with monitors does run hotter due to idle clocks 450 gpu 1250mem while 2nd card is asleep with 250 gpu 150 mem
then gaming - the card runs a little hotter card 1 hi 70s / card 2 mid 60s

i think you should be fine 90 is normal for them cards in crossfire right? isnt max like 110?
if you worry about temps alot try turn up fanspeed on gpus up like aset fancurve with msi afterburner

i stopped playing bf3 in eyefinity for now due to markers above team not being there on middle screen and me just shooting anything that moves leading to a bunch of tks and the glare

Do your 6950's handle it ok in BF3. Can you crank the settings or do you have to turn a few things down? The game's beautiful at medium settings and I kind of agree with you on the glare but just too much hassle to set up the single monitor because I'm running same total res as you just portrait.

I know my post was a little presumptuous since I didn't actually go above 100 on the game I was playing. I'll check on BF3 this weekend to confirm my suspicions though. Maybe it's just paranoia but I don't like my cards that high. At least it's winter, windows going to be open a lot with this set up. Thanks for the fyi on the idle though, that was helpful.
