Is it a good idea to place a factory full of sensitive equipment so close to a huge geological fissure? The USA has some better points than that I think.
A fissure is created by unstable geology, the Grand Canyon is caused by erosion.

Arizona's in the danger zone anyway.

China was taken over by marxists and any intelligent person knows what a marxist is: fascist. The fascists want power and if all of the best technology falls in to their hands by invading a small island with the remnants of the legitimate Chinese government? It's a good strategic move for the free world and TSMC. Hopefully the fascists will fall in China sooner than later though if they did invade the island them forget about your next CPU/GPU if two world powers with nuclear weapons go to war. Any business in that position can only benefit from not putting all their eggs in one place that is highly prized, most especially by fascists. I'm not aware of the context of how they're coming over to Arizona though I hope it's predominately through the free market.

A couple of years ago I was looking for new jobs, a headhunter from Taiwan told me that the local infrastructure is having trouble keeping up with the expanding needs of TSMC for water and electricity, and building new fabs overseas will just be a matter of time. I guess US is a sensible choice right now.

Well this is an interesting thread! This is just a stunt to sell the "bring back our jobs" crowd. Useless political manipulation for people that feel more than they think. As for the "security" issues, are you fing kidding me? Did everyone forget about Snowden? The US is "afraid" of someone else doing exactly the same thing that they have been doing for the last 20 years, I would call it hypocrisy but it doesn't really matter. No one gives a crap about reality, it's far better to eat the fairytale that your Messiah of choice is selling. Humanity is a bad joke.

I have to wonder if it was also somewhat political with the choice being Arizona of all places, instead of say Oregon, like the Ex-Hynix Eugen factory (which was recently bought by a digital sign-making company but could have been the perfect facility to use as base), or Washington state, or even Wisconsin again (as part of the the tech-industrial park near where the superficial Foxconn facility is).

Water in Arizona ?
Well, at least there is too much silica sand down there.
