turning on your pc the hard way

this is what i did when a ESD broke the power button functionality of my motherboard

the switch shown is from a AT power supply

thought id share

btw power on by keyboard is a easier way to go but this mobo didn't have it in the bios

figured out how to get windows to show the "it is now safe to turn off your computer" message

i went into device manager and changed the pc type from acpi pc to standard pc by manualy updating the driver to the one i wanted

ya but the method i demonstrated is more in depth and shows a practal way to use it to turn on and off your pc without problems (such as the inability to power up after a windows shut down) (my pc now powers on and off identically to an older AT pc)

hehe i'm doing this for my school science project. running 20 3.7V 1A 100lm LED's off the 5v rail of the psu. got a switch wired up to the thing, stuffed it all into a shoebox. works like a charm.

haha making a "bomb scare" are we?

u should be able to tap the 3.3v rail for that tho its the orange wire and one of the black wires sometiems leds get dimmer at higher voltages (b4 they burnout lol)

hehe not quite. its actually a total redesign of a LCD monitor to use LED based backlighting. 20 100 lumen LED's, pull rougly 1A, and they have the same thermal density as a p4. fun!

btw, it actually works too.
