Two 760's SLI or one 780? Not like the other threads.

OK folks here is my dilemma.

I'm looking to run BF4 on Ultra with a consistent FPS count over 60 on ONE 120Hz monitor. My specs are high enough on the CPU, power and memory side and currently I'm running 2 560Ti's at 1080P flawlessly but for BF4 it's bottle-necking at the cards.

My pros and cons for both options are:

760 SLI is powerful! Benchmarked, it consistently scores far better than Titan BUT, they are only 2Gb cards and do not stack in SLI (two 2GB cards DO NOT equal 4GB).

One GTX 780 is not as powerful as 2 760's but it has 3Gb of memory which is ideal for running BF4 and everyone says that this card would be better because I can SLI it later on BUT, these cards are already scarce as it is and I'm not sure I'll be able to get another 780 in a years time.

So given these parameters what would you do?

Thanks for the quick reply Buildzoid but I'm not and don't plan to run on AMD hardware. Just my personal preference for now. ;)

Pretty narrow preference. What was the last AMD card you had? They make bloody good cards. If you're going to drop cash on a 780 for BF4, I'd definitely wait for the R9 290X. The card and game are pretty much made for each other.

...And that's coming from a Titan owner. Even if you dont want an amd card at least wait for the price drops(cheaper 780) that amd new cards will cause.

As a 780 owner I'd also rather wait for the 290X, especially because the OP specifically states BF4 in his first post. From what weve seen the 290X will own the competition in that game, and if 120Hz is priority, then AMD away.

If you're set on being that narrow-minded however, I'd opt for a 780 over two 760's any day. SLI and crossfire are just too "90%" for my liking. I've had issues with 570 sli and 7950 crossfire, so 780 gets my vote.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let's not get into an AMD NVIDIA war..... ;)

My biggest worry here is that yes, 2Gigs VRAM is good enough FOR NOW. but in another year will 2 GTX 760's 2Gb be good enough for the latest games (games released in a year from now)?

Just wait a couple more weeks for reviews, then make a decision.

Anyway single 780GTX if you have to go that way.

Rcoon.... is the 290x the FULL model name for that card??? I'll google it to see what comes up. I'm open to AMD but the nightmare I had CF'ing the last 2 5850's left a very bitter taste in my mouth lol.

Dont crossfire then. R9 290X, NDA lifts on 15th October. "Doctor it hurts every time I eat cheese." "DONT EAT CHEESE THEN"
Oh and by the way. 780's have 3GB of VRAM not 2

Thanks guys and to be clear. I'm partial to Nvidia for 2 reasons

1. My setup is intel based and not tailored to take FULL advantage of an AMD vid card.

2. Once bitten twice shy.... AMD screwed me over once, the mods on the AMD forum are outright arrogant and rude but that's another story. I've never had a problem with Nvidia cards, the community forum or the company.

This has nothing to do with AMD is better or Nvidia is better so can we PLEASE get past this, stop the "narrow minded" comments and stick to the topic at hand. This is not just for me as I'm sure many others have reached this crossroad and are wondering the same thing.

For BF4 the R9 290X will almost definitely beat a Titan.

This post shows a couple of 3 minute FRAPS runs with my set up.

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2990492&postcount=1944

Wait for the AMD flagship before choosing.

I've only had intel for ages now and no problems at all with AMD/ATI (5850's and 7970's). Most vendor forum mods are dicks. You came and asked a question, lots of people are giving you the same advice. Any crossfire issues are being resolved. And the R9 290X will almost 100% be crossfire frame paced well.

But if you want to know what to get if you blindly refuse AMD, wait for the AMD releases for prices to drop and buy a GTX 780 Classified. Even though the 'Mantle' optimised R9 290X will hump it all the way to the moon.

I know 780s have 3gb..... I was talking about the 760s. Maybe I typo'd somewhere.

BTW, I just checked and the projected price for the R9 290X is around 600 USD. I'm in Canada so who knows what the markup will be here.

Intel CPU's can make 100% use of AMD/ATI cards. That's just an old wive's tale.
I never used AMD forums, I only ever used 1 forum, which is good enough for everything. This one. Also I understand your love for the support. I've dealt with NVidia support numerous times, and I cannot state enough how excellent the NVidia reps were with my 780 RMA, even though IT WASNT THEIR PROBLEM. They even conferenced called with along with my GPU manufacturer.
Never had any technicial difficulties with AMD so I never dealt with their support (But AMD are the chip manufacturers, not the card manufacturers, so any issue with a card isnt really anything to do with them...).
Best thing you can do is wait for 290X, because even if you dont buy one, prices are going to start dropping on other cards when it releases.

I just ordered the asus VG248QE AND it shouldbe here by tomorrow or monday :/. my ASUS gtx 780 DCUII OC came this week. I amwondering if i should've gone with 2 670 2gb's. those would probably maintain 100fps+ better but i was worried about sli issues.

So my biggest concern was the 2GB of memory if I got 2 GTX 760's in SLI BUT, I was able to find 2 Gigabyte 760's 4Gb so I got them instead. Hopefully this will futureproof things for a while seeing as how they EACH have 4 gigs of VRAM. :) Picking them up on Tuesday.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll post again with results once the cards are in the case.

Anyone want 2 GTX 560Ti's????

My personal preference is to get the 780, not only does it have 3gb of ram for omgmorepixels, you are open to getting another 780 for sli in the future. I think a pair of 780s will last for quite some time. Don't bother with AMD if you are not prepared to deal with their funny drivers, but wait for Oct 15 to scoop up cheaper 780
