Ubisoft is leading up to its Assassin's Creed: Odyssey release later this year with the expected teases and demonstrations. If, for one, last year's Assassins: Creed Origins seemed to have done well with the extra allotment of time given to the franchise to sort of reinvent itself, then Odyssey can now comfortably iterate on last year's success. The setting, of course, will appeal more to some gamers than to others; personally, I find a Greek setting more appealing than some others that have been already explored.

The nonlinear story setting is definitely intriguing, but it remains to be seen what exactly that will give us. I stand unimpressed, honestly, with the way quests are still interweaved (or not at all) - the jump from "go seek records" to "I'll help you if you do this fetch quest for me" is jarring as it ever has been. It's not my place though, so maybe the look at this 11-minute Hippocrates and game mechanics on-look will do what Ubisoft expects it to, until the games' release on October 5th.

Sounds stupid. Actual Greek stories are better material to tap.

I really think after the superbly done Origins, which btw, was about the ORIGIN of the Assassins guild, they’ve told the story.

What does Ubi do? They go back to Ancient Greece, BEFORE Origins by hundreds of years, and which by definition this cannot be an AC story, and have slapped the AC name on it.
Yeah. They’ve lost their minds. And we are supposed to accept this as an “AC” title? Why? Because the name attached will sell?

Yeah...:shadedshu:

The sad thing is that I'd love more Greece games.. but they need to stop this. Not even Prince of Persia had this many spinoffs (an all around better franchise btw).

Exactly. I wanted to write the same thing. AC has become a comercial "The young and the restless" kind of crappy soap opera, with no foreseable ending or any more logic. They just spawn one after the other just for the shits&giggles, and yes, MONEYZ!
Seriously, those game deserves to be pirated...

Kind of funny that out of all of these games, only one had a proper real mythology surrounding assassins (the first one). But it never was as good gameplay wise as 2. I'd like to see them just remaster/redo it. Take everything they've learned and apply it to the only setting I cared about.

Ubisoft's studios create incredibly good looking, artistic games with believable worlds, but they very rarely seem to nail down the gameplay. Games are more about using your own imagination than watching something that is authentic or realistic. Real immersion in video games doesn't come from watching something in awe, but rather interacting with the game and using your imagination to fill the gaps. Technology is only a tool to create something immersive gameplay wise, it is not meant to be a showcase for the best visuals, animation or work of art. If there is not enough player interaction required to advance in the game, decisions to make or otherwise meaningful action, then the game is lifeless and dull. In a movie the director drives the experience, in a video game it should be the player.
