I am seeing a lot of videos showcasing the new Ubuntu 25.04. It looks like a whole of of quality of life updates. Even HDR. I am curious how the different distros/spins compare in their HDR implementation. For instance, I run Fedora KDE and the HDR is trash on the desktop and getting it with gamescope is kind of a pain. I am tempting to fire up a live USB instance to check out how it compares.

yep, I downloaded this new distro on launch day a couple days ago. just playing around with it, it is really nice honestly

i am leaning towards not going back to linux mint cinnamon and just staying here with this branch for 1 year

I installed the server and stood up a small kubernetes cluster, everything went fine; but I havent played with the desktop version yet.

HDR is pretty much dependent on the Wayland compositor used (KWin, Mutter, Hyprland, ...), so I don't think the distros themselves will differ much in that regard. Except of course HDR on Wayland being "brand new", so rolling release / newer / more up to date distros will likely do better because they simply have a higher feature level or bugs ironed out regarding HDR.
