I am a MSI man myself, not got anything against any others, it's only because my last 3 boards have been MSI and I like the Bios layout, it seems that even the mid ranged Z490's come with at least a 12+2 phase setup on these 490's which will be plenty for a light overclock on a 6c, 12t CPU, PLUS I have only the 8 pin CPU Power thingy on my PSU (no additional 4 pin) but that should be fine for the i5's...…. the last time I had an Asrock board though was 2007 but it did treat me well.

Even in the Budget stack of their boards the Gaming X comes with decent power delivery and ALC1200 audio and apart from their pro board is the cheapest and in their MPG line up. .... for an i5 it's actually decent value, I was looking at their Gaming Edge or Pro carbon but whilst a fair bit pricier they still come with the same power delivery, just more bell's and whistles that I don't really need, same sound too.

An excellent reason to go with a competitor product even if it's a bit slower.

I would actually be quite happy running it at stock and get the additional turbo boost frequencies the K version has, going this route at least means that I can utilise my S1151 cooling bracket, I could wait a little longer for one of the non overclocking boards but they offer restricted ram speeds and little tweaking at all and to get the level of on board audio I want it means going for one of the higher specced boards that bring the price close to Z490 in any case.

Yeah, the first 3 boards there all have the same power delivery, the ACE has better plus 1220 audio and improved connectivity.

I would've been interested in the 10900(K) had it been sold at the far more appropriate sub-£400 mark but it seems Intel (and clearly these retailers as well) simply do not know what is good for them. You expect me to shell out over £500 for a chip that's: two nodes behind; hotter than all previous offerings/requires liquid cooling; requires a new motherboard that straddles PCI gens; is not even 5GHz all-core; and maxes out at ten cores? This is nothing less than a complete failure.

I genuinely would've liked a 10-core mITX system to pair with an ATX Zen 3 chip near the end of the year when I upgrade to a dual-system build but this pricing is simply unacceptable.

It's a ripoff anyway, upgrading to un unlocked (i5) from a lower bin, locked chip costs you what 90 pounds & an upgrade to that (locked) chip from an IGP less variant is 20 pounds

Yeah, AMD didnt limit overclocking on certain chipsets and SKUs, they maxed out the chips instead atleast they officially admitted it. Go with a non-X chip if you want to OC, they said.

They always have been, although that does not make it right of course although the 10600KF is only a little more expensive than the 9600KF @ around 15% but at least with Comet lake you get HT, just goes to show where Intel were and where they are now that they have serious competition when you think of how much the 8700K's were on release as the leading i7 at the time with the same core and thread count as this new i5.
