Do we have one of these up and running yet?

I'm having a hard time finding legitimate results on pricing so..

MicroDirect have 3 (they had four untill this afternoon! :D)

They are selling the Sapphire model for £349 which is a decent price compared to others.

You will have to search for 4870 X2, it hasn't been intergrated into the online shop properly yet.

Yes, Alex, that crossed my mind too.

I asked him a few questions, one of being which is your distributor source, because they have to be offering it really low otherwise you're taking a margin hit with these.

But then, how on Earth is Komplett getting it that low too?

I have this feeling that you bid, then the stock comes in, and they say 'oh sorry, buy price went up in the channel, they are no longer xxx amount.' And then they cancel the auction or worse, somehow rope you into being liable.

I got some guy offering me 310 GBP for the X2, new, sealed, Sapphire. And I'm tempted to just go with him to avoid any hassle. Hmm..what to do, what to do.

Anyone want to buy a GTX 280 with Danger Den Tieton LCS block including copper backplate? lol

I spoke to him. Everything seems legit.

I'll probably take the plunge here soon. Though I'm not sure why, Crysis isn't going to run any better ;P

If only someone with a X2 and AoC would talk to me, I could really make my decision.

Yes, AoC does run well on any recent card, and as far back as the 640 GTS (if going Nvidia that is), however due to CPU demands the application has, the GPU has to pick up the slack at higher resolutions, which can leave you going lower and lower with your minimum frames. The other problem is that some of the flora has noticeable aliasing, and the trees at a distance don't have a high enough resolution, so you for both these texture issues you need some form of transparency aliasing to correct it. Unfortunatley a 280 isn't strong enough to apply supersampling transparency AA without losing a full 10fps, which takes whatever decent frames you had, and churns them up.

Apparently AoC really likes the X2, and since the ATi cards use adaptive AA, they more or less have a special transparency AA, which when using 4xFSAA, the rated adaptive = 12xAA without a performance loss over 0AA. They also run faster in general in the game.

So it's basically a gain of both speed and image quality that you actually can notice. And the latter is the last thing I'm looking for in AoC to complete it, until they pump out a new shader model that will increase visuals overall, but there's no garuntee the DX10 will do that, and I highly doubt Physx will be implemented.

I don't tihnk this guy is buying from Komplett; as Komplett is just an e-tailer reseller. I think he's getting his bulk from a distributor like Centerprise, which means his price is realistic, but Komplett's is questionable.

perfectionist eh lol well if u have the money then why not although guessing ur bit like me with fact got same monitor ;-) so if u can do it for not much money then why not although as u say should see if thats actually the case with the X2..

Was thinking about upgrading to a 30 inch but think my gaming experience would suffer a lot? Love the dgm for the price but wouldnt mind goin up to the next level :)

Ya DGM fortunatley held it's price for a while, so we didn't feel left out in the cold as some 'sale' prices can do to you.

Going up from 24 is nice, but you start to spread out your pixels at 1920, and that's not cool.
But 2560 is a nasty resolution to try and run demanding applications on. And the cost is sick for the performance cut you'll be taking.

Maybe in a year or two more cards will be 2560 friendly, but right now it's pretty killer.

Well, if he's getting it straight from the distributor, as I imagine he would as he's a reseller, then the price could be right on the mark; it's just that he's not upmarking it a lot, so he's coming out with a low margin, but that would be offset well if he sold a lot; and slapping them on Ebay like he has is a good way to do it.

If Misco can sell one at 320 including VAT, then it's not too much of a stretch for him to swing 275, though some might say that they are 'b' products which are open box or potentially damaged.

However Komplett's price is way off, and that I wouldn't trust.
