looking for a basic pc for my wife to surf the net and play the sims 2 on nothing fancy, maybe an athlon 1800+/p4 2ghz with a ati 9200/fx 5200+ type graphics card to play the sims 2, obviousley if it has better than that would be good.

im sure someone has an old pc laying about of this spec (god knows ive had 2-3 at some points) they just dont use any more or need space etc. im not looking to pay a lot, the cheaper the better, i can pay by paypal or direct bank transfer whichever is easier and have cash waiting. many thanks guys :toast:

Make sure it has loads of ram in it. I had a 939 rig with a X850XT in it, and with all settings on the best quality, it still would chunk a bit!

Sims2 has loads of textures and whatnot to slow a PC right to a crawl at times!

512mb would be fine, she wouldnt know how to change any texture settings anyway so it will probably just be run in default settings.

I've not got a full PC, but I've got a couple of mobo+cpu+ram+gpu combos you might be interested in:

an XP 2000+ (1666MHz) with (I think) 896 mb PC133 ram (128+256+512) on an Asus A7A133 motherboard. 256mb Radeon 9550 (flashed to 9600 w/ 450MHz core, 400MHz ram) Can do this for £50 delivered. This used to be my sisters PC and the sims 2 is one of her favourite games, I ended up getting her a new one after she got a new monitor (21") as it couldn't run it at 2048x1536 maxed out  so now she's got a 939 system with a 8800GS in.

I've also got an XP 2600+ (2083MHz) with 1280 mb DDR333 ram (256+512+512) on an asus A7N8X-X motherboard with an 256mb x1650pro (forget speeds for it but I think it's 600 core, 800 memory) Can do this for £80 delivered. This used to be my system before I upgraded to intel at the start of the year. Has stood the test of time pretty well. Still plays everything you can throw at it, but again I got a 24" widescreen LCD monitor so I could watch TV/HD stuff so this system had to go.

Let me know either way

Cheers
