[WTB] [UK] Decent 2:1 / 5:1 Sound System!

Hey guys, im in need of a new speaker system for my pc. At the minute im using this cheap yatai system that cost £20, and suffice to say, its not very powerful - dog ugly too. So, im looking for either a 2:1 system or a 5:1 system. As new as possible please.

If it 5:1, I wouldnt mind something along the lines of a Logitech X-540 or a Logitech G51;

If its 2:1 (preferred, need to down size) then something like a Logitech Z-2300.

Looking to spend a max of £50 (ish).

Please post pictures + prices! Thanks!

mine sound great, only reason I'd consider selling them is because I live with my elderly grandfather. Headphones make life easier.

Kyle, I say go with the Logitech X-240's. I have an older set of the 5.1 version. They absolutely rock, shakes the house quite well. I have yet to date to even fully turn the woofer on or max the volume. It does overly well at 75% of either.

Edit : sorry m8 I just realized this was a [WTB] thread and not an "I need advice" thread.

Edit #2: alot of these seem to be in your range tho!:toast:

Hmm, i have looked those 540's up before - im just thinking if the 5:1 aspect will really be such a benefit, i mean at the minute i cant tell that im running 5:1 versus 2:1 - would it be worth spending extra to buy a 5:1 system? plus, my room aint that big as it is, so would 2:1 really be such a "downgrade"?

5.1 is not about volume. its about positional audio for movies and games.

There is three bonuses to the 540's

1. The sub cone faces into the floor. This makes the bass go straight into the ground, making it sound more powerful (instead of dissipating into the air)
2. They have a headphone jack
3. They have a button to automatically upmix 2.0 channel stereo into 4.0 surround (ONLY use it for music... its terrible for games/movies)

Edit: IMO, it depends on price. if you can get some awesome logitech 2.1 for the price of a mid range logitech 5.1, sure, go the 2.1 set - it'll have more power and better quality.

Thanks for all that, im still learning you see

I can get a Z-4 for the same price as that 540 - itll come down to A. ebay (if there is any of either on there) and B. choice on size etc.

Thanks again! :toast:

Z-4: total power 80W (Subwoofer 23W)

X-540
Total RMS power: 70 watts
Subwoofer: 25 watts

So in summary, the Z's are more powerful speakers (at least twice as powerful, considering that its 6 speakers vs 2) but with a weaker sub, and lack of positional audio.

well, what do you DO with the speakers. are you a movie buff, an MP3 whore, or an FPS gamer? what is the most common use for your speakers.

Well my PC is basically used for everything but watching TV - i mainly game and listen to music, but i regularly watch films too.

In order of importance?

well all 3 are as important haha.

well putting it into context: how many of those things are native 5.1 audio?

1. games - yes
2. music - no
Films - depends. if we're talking 700MB AVI files, they're only 2.0
