Room temperature, cpu temperature, motherboard temperature and gpu temperature are needed.

Are you keeping the pc dust free?

Did you get the card new or used? How long ago?

Have you replaced thermal compound on gpu/cpu?

What are the complete detailed system specs of the system?

What resolutions, detail levels and games you are playing?

You may want to recheck the clock speed, as that is inaccurate, what speed of ddr3.

Get HWINFO64 and get a spec page

IF you are budget strapped that chip can clock like crazy with a good air cooler. Also that x58 is Triple Channel so you can get some good memory speed with 3 sticks of RAM. BUT..that socket is a dead socket and I don't think I would invest much in it.

No, that's a modern CPU - with a 5-6 year old graphics card - the 980 will be the bottleneck. The i7 920 is a 11-12 year old CPU for, part of the reason why it's not quite up to the task at stock clocks.

How would a 6 year old gpu bottleneck a 11 year old cpu sorry im kinda confused i dont know to much abt pc

So a game like csgo i only get 40 fps would a cpu upgrade fix that

Even roblox i only get like 40 fps and when i look at the cpu its struggling and the cpu is locked i can overclock it

If it really is a 930, the stock speed should be 2.8Ghz - the 920 was 2.66Ghz.

If indeed you have a 930, and it's stuck running at only 2.66Ghz then something else is going on.

Some GPUs are designed to stretch at higher resolutions/details, a cpu is tested when details and resolutions are set low.

An Overclock may help but a Upgrade to even a Ryzen 3 would yield you better performance over Core i.

tldr - your CPU is 12years old - your GPU 6. The GPU can do a lot more than whatn the CPU is capable of, and in most modern games you will have the CPU being the limiting factor so the GPU won't be possible to max out.

That CPU should oc to at least 4ghz what motherboard have you got?

An i7 920 @ 4ghz won't bottleneck a 980ti

Well with 4Ghz it will bottleneck a GTX 980 but not as much....

Also yeah what motherboard you have there? If you have some decent X58 mobo you can get some cheap 6c/12t Xeons and OC easy on 4Ghz+ and those CPU's can handle GTX 980 and even some stronger GPU's with no problems

You overclock with the bus/QPI and not the multi iirc with the early i7 920's most of the x58 motherboards were decent at overclocking even the lower end ones

My point is many people still have x58 setups with modern GPU's and with an OC of 4GHZ+ theres little bottleneck.
