Sorry if this isn't the right forum area, I've never posted here before and was recommended these forums by a friend.

My problem is that I've experienced a lot of sluggishness while playing games in my build and some games that previously ran fine are now experiencing some significant framerate drops on even the lowest settings.

For some reason whenever I run 3D Mark, the benchmark (as well as ASUS AI Suite II) says that my CPU is running at consistent, unchanging frequency of 1562hz. This is, as you can imagine, somewhat low. I have done a bit of google fu looking for a solution and have disabled C1E, C6, and Cool'n'Quiet functions and none of these changes have affected the performance at all. I have used ASUS Suite's auto-tuning function, which allegedly increased the clocks by 8%, but 3D Mark still says that it is only running at 1562hz in the benchmark from start to finish.

Can anyone help me?

Do you happen to remember the biggest change to your system prior this performance drop? There has to be something. Also check temperatures if they are ok.

The only thing I remember doing was playing with the UEFI BIOS settings when I had some issues previously (PC would freeze and say 'DVI No Signal Found' and it wound up being a faulty ground in the outlet in the wall). Something to do with system stability, but I can't remember what I changed.

Here's a screenshot from the Firestrike benchmark I just ran. CPU Temps never went higher than 35C.

I suggest you reset BIOS settings back to default. You set something wrong in BIOS. For example, if I mess up multipliers, my CPU will constantly run at 1000 MHz instead of 4500 MHz. I can also set it wrong so that only one core runs at 4500 MHz and the rest at 1000 MHz. So, it's very likely you did something similar.

You can set important stuff again afterwards, but just that important stuff (like RAM speeds and whatever you had to change to address freezing/DVI issues).

what rejzor said and what cooler do you have?
and dont know how accurate 3dmarks are in measuring temps and clocks?

and are the points ya get in line with others using simmilar hardware?

Tried resetting everything through the boot menu and sort glanced around through the glass to see if the CMOS had a jumper, but it doesn't look like it. Everything is on the default settings and the CPU still doesn't change frequency under load.

Other users of the AMD FX-8350 + AMD R9-290X combo score anywhere from 7000-9000 on 3D Mark Firestrike, my scores are generally <5000. Dunno what to do at this point :<

If you cant see the jumper for the CMOS, and it doesn't have a reset button for it, remove the coin battery from the Motherboard while the system is turned off and power disconnected.
Then wait 30 seconds and replace it and turn the system back on.

Are you using stock AMD cooler?
Have you tried disabling APM and or Turbo?

Also, try to monitor your CPU temperature and CPU clock with HWMonitor while putting some medium-heavy load (maybe Wprime 1024M) and post a screenshot of HWmonitor here.

try to remove the bat and count to 30, if that doesnt work try reseating the cpu. also did you install any new hardware before experiencing the problem?
