Ok now Right-click on Sony AVAMP and Configure Speakers. Then test your Dolby/DTS source program/file or surround sound media / game. (The playback program / media / game may need to be configured properly.)

If it works you can then try increasing Advanced and see if it still works.

But really, if your sound system is HDMI, you shouldn't need Dolby/DTS to actually get surround. Just Configure Speakers to the correct number of speakers/setup. It'll be PCM surround - if the source is surround.

I understand you, this time I took a screenshot using the receiver.

So, what Im trying to explain is that my receiver just accept in HDMI this formats below:

PCM 2.0 or Dolby/DTS, like this images below.

So, Im trying to use DTS Interactive or Dolby Digital Live over HDMI

You think its possible?

Lets see this connection:
(Nvidia GPU > Hdmi > Sony receiver > Hdmi out form receiver to my TV.

(could be any monitor, whatever, the PC is sending the sound and image over HDMI, direct to Sony Receiver over HDMI).

Either that amp, or your GPU (it'd have to be really really old) is not supporting PCM audio.

It's 5.1, but not PCM surround by the looks of things. One of the early models, with limited support.

no. IDT is a different chip than Realtek (different animal altogether) and IDT never gives out driver downloads to pc users and only to pc manufacturers & motherboard makers (aka. more restrictive than realtek). IDT only make chipset specific drivers based on what manufacturers tell them - much harder to "mod" or "unlock" than realtek

because that is NOT the point!
IDT audio drivers work differently than Realtek's and IDT's are not necessarily better nor worse (structure is different)

and you did not specify what kind or model of HP laptop you are using. ask HP for any IDT audio drivers for your specific HP notebook pc or check the HP support site

plus, there is really NO BENEFIT whatsoever in using "unlocked" drivers (if there were such things for IDT) on an HP laptop since laptops only have 2-channel or stereo audio and such drivers would be worthless or useless. if you had an HP desktop computer with at least 5.1 sound or 6-channel audio, on the other hand like with this guy several years ago [who also asked if there were any unlocked IDT drivers for his hp desktop pc but there weren't any], then that would be a different story.

IDT HD audio hardware is good but IDT audio driver support is bad; can only obtain IDT drivers from the PC manufacturer or motherboard maker. Realtek, on the other hand, not only makes manufacturer specific audio drivers but also general purpose or "generic" audio drivers for many Realtek ALCxxx audio chipsets and the generic drivers are available on the Realtek web site but are for Realtek HD audio hardware only

Ok fellow. I spend the hole night waking up because I tried to find a way to make my surround sound work. I have a PC connect in HDMI to a denon avr 1700h connect to my LG C9 TV. And I only got stéréo...

when I connect my Pc to my TV then the AVR trhough E-ARC I can get Dolby Atmos on my moovie with MPC HT, but with my PC connect directly to the AVR I only got DD+. Most important, I want 5.1 surround in my game and for now, whaterver the configuration, I can't get surround in my games...

here's what I have on my old HP pavilion desktop pc using realtek alc662 hd audio hardware & SRS (though the srs options are not integrated in the realtek audio manager app and is launched thru a separate srs program):

I have some strange issue. Mainboard Gigabyte X48-DQ6, chipset ALC889A. 5.1 speakers connected with three jack cables.

Drivers 2.82 and 2.81 are not working correctly. Sound is ok but audio manager is not working.
2.80 and 2.79 (patched - DTS unlocked) are working correctly. All chanels are working separately (DTS on in audio manager). I have observed only one problem in Firefox browser. There is no sound (on any sites) when 5.1 speakers are set. When stereo speakers are set, sound is ok.
Now I'm using official drivers from gigabyte site, 2.70 with DTS (no need to patch). These drivers are working correctly with Firefox on 5.1 settings.

Should I try some other versions? Is that a problem of drivers signature?>

Try to apply this patch to newest drivers. I made patch a long time ago, but it must to work properly till now.

but a bug, if the format is changed to e.g. "2 channel, 16 bit, 96000 Hz (Studio Quality)" before or after setting it to "DTS Interactive"/"Dolby Digital Live", it will bug out and won't be able to be changed to DTS/Dolby Digital with "Format not supported by this device."



and that's fixed only by doing the procedure from the start, DDU=>install modified driver=>registry fix by hand=>restart. So, after restarting, change it to DTS Interactive and leave all settings alone, don't change anything

Old thread, but I'm here only to report that after 3 years and some 50 unsuccessful tentatives, possibly more, I finally managed to get everything to work. All that was missing was that registry entry. No need to enable test mode, YMMV. Win 7 Ultimate, Asrock FM2A88X (ALC1150), Logitech Z906.

That did it.

I sincerely apologize if this has been covered already. I spent the last 45 minutes or so skimming through the 120+ pages looking for information on my issue. These drivers have worked for me for years since 2018 with my x99 board and again with my z390 board. However...I just upgraded (dun dun dun).

Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX Z690 (Rev 1.4) motherboard
Realtek ALC1220
Windows 10

(NOTE: Troubleshooting/testing/confirming done with a clean Windows install between to rule out residual drivers/registry/etc.)

Problem: I cannot get the 'Dolby Digital 5.1' option to show in the Sound Settings> Advanced dropdown list.

This particular motherboard differs from other motherboards that use the same ALC1220 in that the back panel does not have individual speaker inputs (See picture comparison). It is for this reason I believe it uses manufacturer specific drivers only.

When I use the default Realtek 2.80, 2.81, 2.82 drivers (or these modded drivers based off of the default drivers) I get an error message (See picture). This is because it uses non-APO files/drivers. Instead, I have to download the driver package directly from Gigabyte with those non-APO files/drivers.

I can of course still patch the APO dll files within the Gigabyte version of the drivers but again, the install doesn't use those dll files (to confirm I deleted the entire subfolder where the APO files live and it still installed just fine). Therefore despite using the Gigabyte version of the drivers AND patching the dlls successfully I get no joy.

My questions are:

1. Is this a known issue with an existing workaround?

2. If not, is it possible to force my motherboard (through file editing) to use the APO dlls?

Good question!

With my previous motherboards where this worked fine I had the option of Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS Surround. Using DTS Surround would sometimes not play any audio depending on the game or video file I was playing therefore I didn't use it. However, for the same of the 'now' my goal was to get either Dolby or DTS to show in the menu. Using the three mods I mentioned none of them showed either option.

All that being said, I think the option is 'Yes, it does need to be Dolby'...BUT if I can get another option to show in the dropdown that streams live 5.1 audio out of the optical (Toslink) output then I am willing to try it!

After installing the 'Standard' install of 'DTS DCH Driver for Realtek HDA [DTS:X]' I played my 5.1 audio test file. After playing it multiple times the best I got were some 'pops' and very brief high pitched noises usually after the file played. Checked the usual suspects by putting the Windows sound formats under 'Supported Formats' as 44hz and disabled the higher ones. Then I enabled the 'Stereo Mix' device and set it to 'Listen' mode on the SPDIF device. This is to keep the output 'active' and stop the sound from popping in and out. Same result though unfortunately.

HOWEVER, if I do the built in Windows test on the 'Dolby Digital' option it does play all 5.1 channels in their correct positions. The 'DTS Audio' test plays nothing. So If I could use these same drivers but have the Dolby option show in the Advanced dropdown I think these would work.

It seems like a good start in that it at least tells me the motherboard/chipset is capable of putting out live 5.1 from the optical toslink I just think it needs to be via Dolby Digital Live.

Some receivers will get the start-stop pop on SPDIF, my Z906 does not, but I prefer always active.

You beat me to it! After I posted my last message I remembered why DTS didn't work in the past. It is indeed the hardware I am using to listen: My Astro A50 headphones. They do NOT support DTS. I think your solution would work perfectly if they did support DTS. So yeah its a niche problem. However, I would still like to solve it. I'll need Dolby Digital Live in my specific scenario as I do not want to change headphones (Performance, cost, etc).

You can literally uninstall all drivers, use the native Windows ones, tests the same formats and get the exact same result.

I am in the computer software field but admittedly I wouldn't know where to look for this. Back in my day in my 20s when my mind (and body) was sharper I may have been able to figure it out.

I wonder if the Realtek modded drivers on this post were created from the Dolby apo....maybe someone else in the forum knows how to get em/it?
