Unstable PC (B450M Steel Legend, Ryzen 3300x, 2x8 Corsair LPX)

Hi techpowerup people,

I'll try to make this as short as possible..


Current system :
CPU : AMD Ryzen 3 3300x
MBO : Asrock B450m Steel Legend (with latest bios)
RAM : Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200Mhz (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16), also have another pair of G. Skill Aegis at 3000, pc is acting the same with both kits, i know they're not on the QVL list
PSU : Antec NE550C
VGA : Nvidia GTX 1050

So the pc crashes totally randomly while playing games (some of them not all), surfing the web (pages just crash in firefox and chrome) plus random BSODs. Read through dozens of topics with memory instability with 3rd gen Ryzens so i'm leaning towards a problem with RAM + MOBO combo of not playing nice (i hope) maybe even the CPU.

All drivers are up to date, fresh install of win10.

Things i've tried so far :

- Tried with XMP on
- Tried with XMP off and setting 3200Mhz manually
- Also tried on 3000, 2933 no change
- Manually entered timing with Thaiphoon + DRAM calculator, pc just cycles 3 times and reverts to old settings
- Did a full 4 passes with memtest with and without XMP, no errors
- Ran prime 95, gave me worker 3 & 4 errors on Small FFT, and crashed the PC when i tried Blend

I could try with different settings for the RAM, don't know which one too look at, never fiddled with timings honestly, recent Pcs just worked out the box.
All settings are stock, nothing is OCed nor do i care at the moment, just want a stable PC for the time being. Cpu, mobo and ram are bought like a week ago and still under warranty the rest is not

So if anyone has some helpful ideas and what to do i'm all ears

Quite a few people have had problems with Corsair LPX modules and Ryzen CPUs, myself included.
Those are Samsung B-Die though, so should in theory be better than the Hynix based ones I had.
I presume you remembered to set the DRAM Voltage to 1.35V?

Yeah i left the voltage on 1.35V and used 16-18-18-36 manually in BIOS

Did you put ram i A2 and B2-slot? Many problems with ram on Ryzen is caused by ram i A1-B1 on D-chain mobo.

Double checked, they're are in A2 B2 per Asrock manual

use memtest to check you havnt a dud stick, ive the same ram with a 3900x and b450 and it runs fine at 3200.

You said you used Dram Calc timings, what about voltages, soc, vddp and vddg?

You need to check your voltages, likely too low to maintain your timings (could also be IF clock being higher than your cpu can handle)

Checked the whole kit, could spin each stick individually in memtest again.

Grabed a screenshot from the phone when i was entering values from DRAM calc. Enterd everything i could in the bios.

So did memtest again on both sticks of ram, no errors. Some people hinted that if prime keeps failing on the same workers (3 & 4 in my case) that it could be a bad core.

Forgot to mention that before i've got the Corsair ram that i've plopped my old Ryzen 1200 with the G.Skill ram (at 2133Mhz) and system ran with no problems (tried in Hearthstone which usually crashes or BSODs the whole pc within 15-20 minutes, played like 3-4 hours). Also tried with the JEDEC 2133 on Corsair, same crashes and random BSODs. The weird thing is that for example Overwatch runs fine with any settings i tried (3200mhz with manual timings on corsair but pc still crashed doing random stuff).

So i'll grab my old ryzen from the shop and try with Corsair with same settings i believe that both mem kits are working fine.

these are my timings may help, i could not do any good with the dram cal. i can get 3333 to stick but had the odd crash so put it back to 3200 and it runs sweet.

So i left prime running for about 2 hours, worker 3 stops immediately while worker 4 stops about 3 mins into the tests. The same behaviour is happening on the G.Skill and even on older HyperX Savage stick of ram (8 gigs 2400 mhz). Feels like i'm running in circles but i'll test with the above timings and switch back to my older Ryzen just for my sanity check

it could just be your motherboard mate, i havnt used yours but ive heard there quite good, my mobo is a cheapo i got for free when i pre ordered a 2700x over 2 years ago. without me going back and reading your posts earlyer have you got the latest bios.

Its the latest one, i've put old Ryzen 1200 gonna see how the system behaves for the rest of the day.

Edit :

So PC is running like a champ since 1 pm without any issues with the old Ryzen (opened multiple tabs in firefox, played some games and also fired the NoxPlayer with 3 VMs in it, all fine). RMAing the CPU tomorrow, will get back if RMA passes.

Update :

After almost 2 months of arguing with the shop where i bought it (they claim that the CPU works fine, took it to another shop for a test, same symptoms as my tests), did an RMA directly with AMD, tested as faulty, got the new one so this thread can be closed.
