Upcoming 2950?

I realy want a HD 2900xt, but with crap constantly coming out, should I wait and grab a $200 x1950 pro 512mb, or bite the bullet and grab the 2900? I dont want to get it and then a month down the road have a better version come out. I've also heard that there is a 1gb version of the card, is this true, and if so where can i buy it?

I'm just trying to make the best use of my money towards my PC, without having to upgrade in a few months. If I grab the x1950, it can hold me over until I see a 2950...

I prefer ATi, and I found it... so I think I might have to grab one in a couple weeks. I think that this card will go head to head with the GTX once it gets optimized drivers.

Extra RAM makes difference in BIG resolutions....I dont know why people comment on the 1gb version of the X2900 like its a great card in comparison with the 512mb version......

There will not be a 2900XTX. There will be a 2950XTX (and maybe even a 2950XTX PE(rumour)). They won't be out until they finish developing the R650 GPU chip. Also the R700 is under way for the next-gen of cards.

It has twice the memory and ddr4 so it has more bandwith it should make a big difference down the road.

I'm willing to bet it will make a difference in DX10. Hell, the DIRT beta couldn't even run on a 768MB GTX with everything turned all the way up to ultra.

I have to say the demo of call of juarez, dx10, ran smooth as milkshake on very very high settings, i was really quite impressed. and thoroughly enjoyed the eye candy, especially the quick-draw slow mo action

min specs are hd2400, recomended is 2900xt (for ati anyways)

Nope. The latest update changed what the Ultra settings are. Originally the textures wouldn't fit in the frame buffer. It was even on their forums.

i dunno about the whole next line it's odd really. usually nv launches first gets the performance crown, then ati launches regains crown, nv launches a small upgrade to a currnet product and barely leads, then ati launches their next update and leads the market for a while. at least that's been the trend since the 9800's

now it's nv releases a kickass product, then releases an ultra card to beat said product, ati launches something aimed at the upper midrange and now a lowend. soooo........ who knows whats going to happen. they don't seem to be caring about the performance crown atm. and thats where all the XX50's came from.

whats the point of buying a dx10 card now when if u wait a few months there will be something better...e.g look at dx9 few months after these big new cards came out the where better now my 9200se is and was a peice of crap but back then that i wud play hitman contracts at 30fps now iget 130 fps and my card isnt even high end...just wait a while

The point is that with the 8800 series you buy a card that will last a long time even in DX10 while an X2900 is alot slower than the GTS in every DX10 game.
Some people CANT afford to change Graphics Cards every few months Little Geek so i guess that DX10 performance DOES matter in the long run for the majority of people. Unless ofcourse everyone in here can afford to spend 300-500$ every 6-7 months for a VGA card _

edit: granted, im a major fan of ATI, but what your implying is pure oppinion, take the 1gb 2900xt for example, in dx10, so far ive seen it come out on top over the gts, we need gtx benchies in the call of jaurez benchmark thread, cmon peeps, GET BENCHMARKING!!

Ya I was thinking the same thing... He apparently hasn't seen many of the 'new' benchmarks with SLIGHTLY more mature drivers...bah, you just CAN'T avoid a rant sometimes...

And id say than Anandtech is quite fair to both brands.

No the 2900xt 512mb is faster than a Ultra 8800 gtx in COH direct x 10 test and it should be it has 3 times the shaders and is clocked higher. The 2900xt 1 gig ddr4 will be slightly faster than a 8800gtx and almost as fast as a 8800gtx ultra in Dx9 but in Dx10 the 2900xt 1 gig DDR4 version will beat a Ultra 8800 gtx. I thought the 2900xt was junk at one time and after driver release after release it getting faster . The 2900xt puts a hurting on a 8800gts 640 in DX10 and beats it in almost every test with the new drivers in Dx9. The 8800gts is a great card as is the 8800gtx. The 2900xt 512mb is a great card and fits between them. The 2900xt 1 gig ddr4 is eventually going to beat or match ultra 8800 gtx I know this because it's younger sibling the 2900 xt ddr3 512mb is beating or matching it now in alot of test. If your reading reviews older than a few weeks old they are worthless. The 2900xt 1gig ddr4 is a beast trying to break it's chains. The ultra 8800 gtx has reached near it's full potential. The 2900 xt has not, it's drivers are still maturing. I hope it gets even better soon the 8800 series will get cheaper.

Here is a card that cost 374.00 (512 mb version) and in this DX 10 test done 3 days ago it beats the gtx cards . This is just an example. We will not know what the 2900xt cards can really do for about 6 months as they get the bugs out.

put it this way, i cant access major overclocking on my 1gb 2900 yet, and its screaming in dx9, and so far ive seen nice things from in the only dx10 bench ive done so far, feel rather frustrated tho, REALLY need access to voltage control

Mandelore would you please bench that 2900xt 1 gig and put the results in the Alcopones 3dmark06 bench thread I for one want to see what it can do.

Also to be fair here is a game farcry that won't even run on a 2900xt making my point thats this card has driver issues and it's potential is no where near reached.
