Upgrade advice:CPU & MoBo - £270 budget

Hi, Ive managed to get up £270 to upgrade my CPU & Motherboard and Id like to know what you guys suggest

I would like to go AMD this time, possibly the 'AMD 64 X2 3800+' (which retails for about £200 @ Overclockers.co.uk)

But Im unsure of what motherboard to go for Im probably looking for something in the £70 region and it must be compatible with the rest of my setup, Dual Channel DDR400, PCI-E x16 etc (please see system specs for more details)

I was only thinking of Dual Core to future proof myself.

Would the CPU & MoBo you suggested perform better for gaming than what I suggested

I also do quite a bit of video encoding and I thought that the Dual Core would help this also.

Well, when more dual-core apps and games do get supported, it will almost be time for a new CPU. So just get a processor that can handle you games and everyday things. Unless you really want dual-core, go for it then. The only games I know as of now that support dual-core is Quake IV and Call of Duty 2

Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 nForce4 Skt 939, FSB1800, PCI-E, DDR400

I have been on the hunt for a really good overclocker that is value for money, this comes in at about £54, I read 3 comparison reviews, each with a dozen socket 939's and this one came equal first in every one with the DFI Ultra D, it has hugh overclocking ability for example 3.2V on DImms, upto 1.75/1.85 on the core etc etc, it really did almost match the DFI for overclocking . Gigabyete are known to be rock solid stable, E buyer are out of stock at the moment but MicroDirect is about the same price:

This is kind of like asking " what do you want for dinner?"

Everyone wants something different...

For me Dual core is if you game and edit music at the same time. I am old so I am only able to do 1 thing at a time. I would go for a 3700+ (single core, GREAT OCer, 1MB cache)

and for the mobo depends if you are ever going SLI or Crossfire.
