been out of the pc game a while now so just looking for you guys input on what would be best bang for my buck so to speak trying to stay as cheap as possible here

tpower i45
e2100
512mb 4870
dx galaxy 1000w psu
2x2gb ddr2 1066

was thinking like a q6600 and maybe another 4870 for black ops. don't do anything to intensive or anything, COD black ops proly most stressfull thing i run. just wondering if new stuff would be big difference idk anything about like 5770's compared to my 4870 or 2 4870's

Seriously, I wouldn't bother upgrading anything if its just BO thats stressing your rig. This game has some issues, no wonder people in the UK are coming out with a lawsuit against Activision. If uber gpu's are having issues well seriously... Anyways, one sure thing I'd do was get another cpu, that would be the best option for you, having a look at your rig.

that's odd, biostar's site doesn't list the board as supporting a q6600, but a decent alternative would be the Q8300 for $150.

A new cpu will help a lot (or overclock the crap out of the one you have). A single 4870 should be enough depending on what resolution you run at.

I think a 5770 is about the same as a 4870 in terms of DX10 performance, but the 5770 has DX11 as well. http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-5770-review-test/14 so if you want big boost get a 2nd 4870 for crossfire, but if you want DX11, sell the 4870 and get a 5830 or 5850 if you feel you need the extra power.

do you have MW2 and how well does your rig run it? Black Ops is pretty close to that as far as the game engine goes.

Edit: my little 9600GT played MW2 pretty well so you really shouldn't have trouble with a 4870

i never said black ops stressed it all that much, but you can always have more power ;) i just want it to run a bit faster in general. windows 7 multi taskin n such. i think the cpu is a big bottle neck right now as far as gaming goes. id like to get a nice quad n then see if i even need a gpu upgrade.

yea 2ghz is kinda slow for gaming. (i first thought you were upgrading before you bought black ops, that's why i mentioned MW2)

Yeah thats why I stated that a cpu would be a better upgrade right now, that is, depending on the stuff you do. If you play demanding games at uber resolutions, then another 4870 would be great, but bang/buck taking into account dx11 (if it is important for you) there are better options with better power draw out there. A 5770 like stated above won't be a step up, but a sidestep really.

What's the budget & is this going to be mainly for gaming? At what res?

http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/cpu_support.php?S_ID=365

there's the cpu support list. it lists a e5400 so i see no reason why a e5300 wouldn't work (just lower multi) same goes for e7400 (e7500 is listed). as for the 6600 i looked again and it will support it... i was at a diff board lol
btw, i'm using a e5300 right now and its doing pretty well in most of my games (SCII really pushes it, and crysis.)

However your computer is a bit slacking on the CPU end. maybe save up for Sandy Bridge?

Intel 2500K CPU
Gigabyte P67 UD4 motherboard
