Currently running an OC'd Q6600 and a 4870 with some DDR2-800. I figure its had its 4 year run, time for an upgrade. Ive been out of the computer/gaming scene for the past couple years, and im not current on the latest and greatest hardware.

I need a bleeding-edge CPU, Mobo, ram, gfx card, possibly a SSD if its worth it for gaming performance. Budget 800-1000 dollars, but its flexible. Resolution 1920x1080. I was thinking an i7, 8GB DDR3, preferably an AMD gfx card. Any advice??

Cheers

Ivy bridge is around the corner (New Intel) But I just did an upgrade so check out my specs. The i7 only has Hyper Threading over the i5 so no real benefit for gaming. As I opted for the i5 2500K. And the AMD 7970 would be your bleeding edge

wait til amd new brand hd7970 comes out, cuz half of your budget will go there right now if you choose a gtx580,
if youre planning just a gaming rig go i5 2500k $220
, save for a ssd.
mobo asrock z68 extreme4 gen 3, lot of people here have it and recommend this board. $185
8gb gskill $40/$50
want to go OC, grab a corsair likuid cooler,h60,h80,h100.
cheap cooler CM 212 hyper evo, you can add an extra fan later.. $30/35
luck on your build.
