Your motherboard (in your specs) looks to be a socket 1155... I don't believe you can use an 2011 socket CPU in an 1155 socket.

And, this the list of CPUs it accepts --> ASUS P8P67 rev. 3.1 supported CPUs

Give everybody an idea of the type of use for the system... gaming, video editing, etc.

And, if, you are going to upgrade any other parts; and, maybe a budget.

What? There awesome. I wish I had one

Ditto!

That is what I was doing tonight. I was looking at parts to upgrade my 2nd system and had socket numbers going through my head, along with CPU, memory, PSUs, and thinking about getting a cup of coffee.
Gone for coffee.

Granted, the Ivy Bridge-E have improved over the Sandy Bridge-E generation. They are 5 to 10% faster, need considerably less power, and offer the same or better overclocking potential. But the Ivy Bridge-E design, although formally new, is in fact outdated already. So if you plan to buy such a CPU and prefer the LGA2011 platform, you should be aware that you pay for an old product that lacks many benefits offered by the more up-to-date CPUs.

Completely disagree

Ivy bridge E 40 lanes of PCI Express

Haswell 16 lanes of PCI Express

Which of these benefits do I actually use. I would rather have the two extra cores.

id say if going for multi gpu, get x79 + 2011 socket cpu. if it is 2 gpu's only, 1150 haswell is more than enough. besides why upgrade now to x79 system if haswell-e is coming this year.

What you get completely depends on what you plan on doing with the computer. If you have no reason to have 6 cores and in the long run your goal is to run multiple GPUs, just get a 4820k. If you're not planning on running more than 2 GPUs and your goal is no more intensive than gaming, than 2011 is a waste of money imho. Most of the benefits of skt2011 are for people who use their machines for things beyond gaming considering most of the things skt2011 offers is geared towards compute-heavy workloads.

There's your problem. Outdated compared to what? Haswell-E cpus will be in stores early next year. That's almost another year of ivy bridge-e being the best there is out there for desktops.
Maybe you were going after the fact that pc gamers w/ single GPU get just as high frame rates on haswell and more expensive ivy bridge-e? If you are not into video editing or 3d rendering, you will not be getting most out of your ivy bridge-e.
