I am looking to upgrade since my computer is about 1 year old. I really don't need the upgrade, but I have the extra cash and would like to. There are a few options:

    - Get 8800gts 320, and A X2 4000+ and be happy
    - Get 8800gts 320, and A X2 5000+ and be more happy.
    - Get C2D E64xx, 8800gts 320, AND another mobo (in which case I need help on that)

Keep in mind I want to spend as little money as possible. Also, keep in mind I want this computer to last about 2 years, so I can get a laptop later on.

    ALSO:

    PRICECHECK

What would you value my rig at?

Really though... its the best thing going right now. Plus with the price cuts coming, you cant beat it.

Now I am not saying that the Phenom (sp?) isnt going to be great.... I am just thinking about RIGHT NOW

Nope, you're also gonna hear it from the AMD fanbois. lol.

Build new and get Core2 and an 8800/2900, if you can swing it.

K so someone put together a cart on the egg... I'm thinkin I have to get a new mobo and all... what the hell I could start over but I really love this computer :( . The thing is I have had this for about a year...

Yes, I know C2D is so much better but when I got AM2, the next day C2D came out and I was annoyed. But now, I am hoping that my AM2 board which is AMAZING will actually be good for the next gen AMD.

I don't want to think right now, but school is about to start and really ANY time to upgrade is good.

is your budget of $1000 the cash you have in hand?

Why not part out what you have now, plus the cash.... you could make a very good system with that

K another point is I want to spend as little money as possible as said and everyone is like "OMG serverboard 2 x C2D and 16 x 8900gtxultrat3h4hx0r card in double octal sli."

Lets try to work off the hardware I already have unless you can get it cheaper.

I have more than $1000, but I would like to save it for another PC in the future. Also, I expect to pull in another $1000 from work, and also, this computer I would like to keep together. I do know LOTS of sellers though.

EDIT: OOOO can someone give me a price quote on it... last time I checked I guessed about $650.

Edit: OMG that PCB is ugly on teh mobo...

If I am going to upgrade, I'm gonna get the best, and right now thats Intel. This upgrade is meant to make my computer friendly in playing Cell Factor and such. Now I really want to go with just the

    A X2 5000+ and the 8600gts...

NOW big question... does the 2600xt beat the 8600gts?

No, the 8600GTS wins in all the tests so far.

I say at least get the 8800GTS 320, and be happy. The 8600 won't really be up to DX10 playing.

K so we settled one thing... 8800gts 320. Now, will the 5000+ X2 bottleneck it, or not?

A bit, but overclocking will alleviate some of that. My X2 6000+ bottlenecks my 2900XT, if that puts it into perspective for you.

Ok so far I'm liking the 8800gts... that is certain. Now I don't want to spend alot of money, so I can OC a bit on that 5000+... That sounds good.

Not too shabby. I think it's a worthy upgrade, that will hold you off for bigger and better things down the road.

wrong about an 8600gts not playing dx10, im no fanboy, my last 3 cards have been ati because of the perf, but my 8600gts when oc plays the lost planet demo and juarez at min 30+fps, its all about balancing your hardware, overclock and game settings to get the best performance over the board and the 8600gts isnt to be sniffed at, my default clocks are 675/1000(2000 effective) and with oc i can reach 750/1150 (2300 ) and thats not the furthest it can go, i just decided to stick with them clocks, no over voltage either, yes the 8600gts is not top of the range BUT its on a par with a x1950pro and plays dx10 fairly well thus far, wait until i get some good cooling and volt mods going on this card and it will kick some serious ass, it already outperforms my x1950 in ALL 3dmark benches and keeps up in dx9 games, it performs very very well for its class.

however i would go with the 8800gts if i had the $ just stating the 8600gts isnt no x1600pro which was a total let down :shadedshu

So is it worth the extra money to get the 8800, yes or no?
